MetLife is the leading provider of Group Benefits. The Disability Technology organization is a diverse team of technologists all working towards the common goal of ensuring the customer is at the center of everything we do.  As a Manager, you will be responsible for end-to-end, long-term lifecycle and technical direction of IT product development teams including multi-phased initiatives from original concept through final implementation and maintenance: creating plans, schedules, estimates; allocation of resources; and status sharing in an Agile environment. You will also work closely with our Product and Design teams to help shape the solutions that we deliver to our customers. You will have an opportunity to impact every part of the system, foster and cultivate your curiosity, and fill a critical role enabling the team to focus on delivering amazing technology and customer solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Product Manager/Owner key technology advisor
  • Create an application roadmap that allows the product to deliver value in the short and long term
  • Manage the overall technical implementation across the Product portfolio 
  • Help identify risks and removes barriers from Development teams to increase CI/CD, Test Automation, and Integration of Production Management
  • Establish and enforce best practices in code control, code reviews, unit testing, DevOps, and application maintenance
  • Ensure secure, high code quality across the entire team
  • Identify risk and mitigation
  • Support and drive audits to conclusion
  • Utilize Agile software development metrics, maintenance metrics, and KPIs to help optimize product delivery
  • Manage financials and budgets
  • Manage resources (hiring, development, engaging talent, utilization)
  • Vendor accountability

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:  

Required:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 8+ years in full-stack software engineering
  • 3+ years in leading/managing a team of technologists
  • Cross functional leadership: organize, motivate, and lead those both within and outside of the team
  • Experience in managing effective teams through development opportunities, recognition, and feedback for both onshore and offshore teams
  • Ability to build, deliver, and operate in a complex environment
  • Hands on development experience or exposure to:
    • JAVA/J2EE, SQL (PL/SQL), XML, HTML, shell scripts and the following frameworks/technologies: Spring, AngularJS, Node js, AWS
    • Mainframe systems development with some of the following: COBOL, XML, CICS, JCL, SQL, VSAM, Changeman, File Manager, TSO, FTP, Fault Analyzer, Xpediter
  • Experience with integration tools such as WebSphere Message Broker, and MQ
  • Experience with the following or similar databases: DB2, UDB, Oracle, MongoDB
  • Experience with activities, tools, and techniques for converting business requirements and logical models into a technical application design.
  • DevOps practices for CI/CD, release management, and automation using Azure DevOps
  • Git-based repositories such as GitHub, Bitbucket, and/or Azure Repos
  • Awareness of Identity, Access Management, and AppSec best practices
  • Knowledge and ability to apply secure coding standards used to prevent security vulnerabilities

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field

The wage range for applicants for this position is [the more specific figure (for example (only): $80,000) or range within which the hiring manager reasonably expects to hire (for example (only): $70,000 - $85,000)]. The role is eligible for incentive compensation under the sales incentive plan for your position.
