The Global Technology & Operations group (GTO) is a diverse team of engineers, developers, business analysts, and project managers with the freedom to create innovative solutions to address core business challenges within MetLife. GTO’s strategy is to deliver a differentiated customer experience and increase MetLife’s operating leverage.


Lead team in maintaining the production environment. Ensuring applications are ready for deployment. Partner with build team in the adoption, implementation and sustainability of Agile and DevOps processes, principles, and practices.


Key Relationships:

Reports to: VP, Application Maintenance & Support

Direct Reports: 0-8 comprised of Production Management Analysts as well as managing service provider resources/relationships

Other Key Stakeholders: CIOs, Build and Plan teams and Enterprise Architecture teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages production management activities including the investigation and resolution of incidents, problems, service requests and working assigned queues
  • Directs prioritization of problems, incidents and service requests, leveraging their business understanding
  • Advises on break-fix coding and/or scripting & maintains relevant documentation
  • Works to increase value by identifying new cost savings or process improvements
  • Provides technical explanation on incidents, problems and escalations to internal and external partners
  • Analyzes metrics and makes recommendations around performance and cost
  • Participates in setting strategic direction for Production Management domains
  • Develop work plans, schedules estimates, resource plans and budgets
  • Develop vendor statements of work, deliverables and Service Level Agreements; ensure vendor performance and deliverables meet contract specifications
  • Develop close partnerships with other technology organisations and agree mutual standards and operating procedures.
  • Full people management responsibility, including hiring, performance and compensation management, and learning & development
  • Drive aggressive operational improvements year on year
  • Oversees change management/release management and audit/compliance/regulatory activities
  • Responsible for strategic and tactical planning around the incident and problem management processes
  • May conduct long-term strategic planning and works on strategic projects with impacts across IT


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (Level 8), Information Systems or related or international equivalent
  • 10+ years related experience
  • 5+ years of line management experience
  • 5+ years project management experience
  • 1+ year experience managing project finances
  • Experience managing offshore teams/ vendors
  • Min 5+ yrs. of demonstrated knowledge and experience with ITIL


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience implementing an Agile framework at a large institution
  • Understanding of the industry best practices around DevOps
  • Passion for automation and the value it brings to an organization
  • PMP, ITIL certification
  • Master’s degree
