Role Value Proposition: 

MetLife are seeking a Tax Assistant Manager to join the EMEA tax team in Dublin. This is a 12 month contract to cover maternity leave.   

It is a great role for any tax manager/tax assistant manager in either practice or industry who is looking to join a high performing tax team.


You would be joining an established tax team currently made up of 10 people (the majority of whom are qualified) based in the Dublin office. This team provide tax support to all countries MetLife operate in within EMEA. This is a broad and varied tax role which will comprise a nice mix of tax accounting and tax compliance work. You will gain great experience during your time here as you will be exposed to financial reporting for tax, Irish tax compliance and the tax management associated with supporting MetLife’s operations in the EMEA region, including supporting the U.S. GAAP tax function.


You will be joining an experienced and established tax team whereby you will receive great on the job training. Your work will genuinely be varied and you will have the opportunity to get involved in various different process improvement type projects


Key Responsibilities: 


  • Preparation of all aspects of the monthly / quarterly reporting for U.S. GAAP and Solvency II purposes, including tax provisioning and reconciliations, return to provision calculations, SOX documentation and One Source tax provisioning tool;
  • Support management of the tax reporting processes for both U.S.GAAP and IFRS including liaison with Dublin Finance and Finance operations across Europe;
  • Supporting Tax input to Finance Transformation initiatives;
  • Supporting local finance/external advisors, who manage the preparation of corporation tax returns for European branch entities;

Additional Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of the Irish and UK corporation tax compliance;
  • Supporting the transfer pricing team, as required, in updating relevant documentation to support charges between the U.S. and EMEA entities;
  • Other compliance work as required, to include review of aspects of direct and indirect Irish and foreign taxes, provided by local teams/advisors;
  • Liaising with in-country finance teams/advisors on any tax authority audit issues, supported by the Tax Manager/ Regional Controller;
  • Assisting on tax projects, when required;
  • Maintain a working knowledge of USGAAP accounting principles /  Irish and foreign tax legislation to accomplish principal responsibilities. 


Business Experience and Technical Skills: 


  • A professional tax qualification (AITI) and/or a professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA)
  • Strong knowledge of USGAAP tax accounting principles is a key advantage and / or Corporation tax experience
  • High degree of proficiency  in use of computerized financial reporting systems (Oracle/PeopleSoft ledger systems) and Excel
  • Strong communication skills are important as the successful candidate will be liaising with the Dublin Finance team, and finance teams in countries across EMEA


Additional beneficial skills set:

  • Exposure to transfer pricing advantageous but not essential
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work independently
  • Insurance, banking or other financial services industry experience preferred
