Summary of Responsibilities: 

The Cross Functional Event Project Manager is responsible for leading the coordination, planning and on-site execution of high-profile meetings and events that support the goals and objectives of US Business. These events are used to attract and retain top talent, establish MetLife as an industry thought leader in the marketplace and to provide opportunities for sales associates to foster stronger relationships with customers, brokers, and prospects.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for developing the programs from overall conception to execution and managing a cross functional project team to ensure all deliverables are met. He/or she will oversee the execution of high-profile internal and external programs such as the National Benefits Symposium, The Customer Advisory Board Meeting, and National Broker Summit among others. He/or she will be responsible for developing project plans, creating agendas/designing content that ties to strategic growth initiatives and industry trends,  handling contract negotiations, creating databases and registration sites, managing budgets, drafting communications and presentations, submitting compliance reports, onboarding and managing vendors, and managing a cross functional project team with associates and external vendors to ensure all deliverables are met in a fast-paced environment. This individual will also work with various internal partners spanning Compliance, Global Event Management, Market Enablement, Legal, Finance, Brand Marketing and will engage with Sr. level leadership frequently.   

 

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, roles and responsibilities and manages a cross functional project team to meet deliverables
  • Manage million $ event budgets from event projection to final cost
  • Negotiate vendor contracts to ensure maximum cost savings, favorable terms and conditions.
  • Create registration sites, databases and maintain accurate data
  • Draft communications, continuity, presentations, surveys, scorecards and more
  • Research speakers and develop content/agendas that align with strategic business initiatives
  • Interface with senior leadership
  • Collaborate with speakers – internal and external to develop content for presentations
  • Ensure all events are compliant with the MetLife entertainment guidelines and submit compliance and imputed income reports routinely
  • Deliver clear and concise program materials such as registration sites, pre-event communication emails, on-site agendas, presentations, mobile apps, and more
  • On-site support for events: lead the project team including assigning roles, oversee speaker management and rehearsals, AV requirements, room set-ups, sleeping room arrangements, activities, registration and more

 

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:

  • B.A. Degree preferred
  • Must take initiative, drive projects, motivate team players and hold them accountable
  • Ability to partner across a large organization, work cross- functionally and integrate information from diverse areas and nurture effective business partner relationships
  • Knowledge of MetLife organization, roles and responsibilities the Group Benefits Business.  
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, including senior management.
  • 10+ years of project management experience, event planning experience (highly preferred)
  • Strong project management and organizational skills a must
  • Extremely detail oriented, thorough, and organized
  • Strong financial knowledge and experience with working with large budgets
  • Knowledge of the Employee Benefits industry is required
  • Very strong writing skills and ability to communicate effectively
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Word
  • Knowledge of registration/or websites and how they work
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects at once under demanding deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills- able to convert data into knowledge and recommend solutions
  • Solid communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Has a knack for creativity
  • Team player willing to help colleagues with their event needs
  • Self -starter who proactively addresses issues and is creative in offering solutions
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time

The wage range for applicants for this position is $85,700 to $114,300. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
