Role Value Proposition: 

Reporting to the Director of Data Strategy & Management for the MetLife Direct Business, the primary purpose of this role is to lead & develop data solutions supporting the organization.  Partnering with key leaders across MetLife Direct, the role will be a focal point for achieving results needed to drive business goals.  The role requires substantial cross-functional interaction with PMO organization, GTO partners, and business teams.  In particular, this individual will be responsible for the governance and management of enterprise data within the organization and for support of the overarching data strategy. In short, this position is responsible for developing and supporting data strategy in the area of new development and projects, enhancements, change management, as well as production support.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Supports operational data track of the strategic projects that encompass both short and long term business data needs
  • Support data governance activities to ensure quality and consistency of the data supporting the business
  • Determines what data to manage, how it is structured, measured, and the method by which data should be tracked and stored
  • Drive business data architecture discussions
  • Partners with Corporate Data Governance Organization to understand and support strategic data initiatives across all of US MetLife
  • Drives business requirements and related discussions pertaining to the current and future state data environments
  • Partner with other operational areas to build strong working relations and improve workflow and organizational issues
  • Oversees formal change management / release management processes, having ownership to system, process & resource
  • Assists with production data issue analysis and solutioning
  • Presents results, analysis and potential solutions to senior leadership at business reviews and/or operational updates
  • Partners with business teams to help develop operational reporting concepts or ad-hoc reporting solutions
  • Leads the development, improvement, and implementation of best practices, standards and procedures to improve the overall quality of the data
  • Maintains Data Governance artifacts including but not limited to Data Dictionary, Data Mapping, Data Issue Tracking, etc.
  • Develops and maintains data flow diagrams
  • Develops data testing strategies for large and small scale projects within the organization
  • Maintain gold copy of data and metrics definitions
  • Data Consolidation Efforts – Developing and supporting a consolidated data repository that can be used for collecting and retaining internal and external data for current and future use. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent business experience
  • 8+ years of experience in data analysis
  • 8+ years of experience in information architecture delivery
  • Proven experience delivering on extremely aggressive and complex projects
  • Ability to effectively partner with both internal and external partners to collaborate and deliver solutions to the business
  • Ability to efficiently govern the change management processes requiring proper documentation for system deployment and other changes
  • 8+ years of experience in Relational Data Modeling; Data Warehousing; Business Intelligence; Data Visualization
  • Functions well in high pressure situations
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Adaptability to change; managing smooth transition from current to desired state
  • Self-directed and highly motivated
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work and influence peers, team members and senior management; and solid  negotiation and consensus building skills
  • Knowledge of data management concepts and industry best practices
  • General knowledge of the supported business functions, processes/procedures, workflow, systems, and transactions
