Role Value Proposition

The Director of Strategy and Planning (S&P) for Hosting leads programs within the Hosting team, which is responsible for the transformation and operations of MetLife’s infrastructure/cloud capabilities. The S&P Director is responsible for governance and planning, strategic definition and alignment, strategic vendor oversight, and strategic program delivery. With a strong focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement, the Director will work with the enterprise teams and global subject matter experts to monitor performance, ensuring our strategies enable MetLife’s vision to be the leading global life insurance and employee benefits company.

 

A highly visible role, this position is focused on driving major change.  The successful individual coordinates and responds to internal and external requests acting as proxy for the Head of Hosting for matters of specific organizational importance.  The position interacts with Senior MetLife leaders across all technical and support functions.


Key Responsibilities 

The Director of S&P has the overall responsibility for leading the strategic planning process for the Hosting department. The goal of this position will be to bring an iterative approach to strategic planning, revisiting department strategy on an ongoing basis to remain aligned with the business and industry trends. The individual will help form the Hosting strategy and then focus on plans to implement the strategy, as well as work with Hosting senior management to execute the strategy. Along with the strategic responsibilities, this position is accountable for business administration management for the Office of the VP, Hosting. They are responsible for operational aspects of the group, including reporting, dashboarding, operational risk management, monthly accomplishment compilation, and training compliance.

 

The role, in collaboration with Global Infrastructure (GI) leaders, will look for industry shifts and understand infrastructure technology competitive advantages, trend forecasting, and ways to continue to remain an effective and efficient organization.

 

This role will be the key mobilizer, spending time on building organizational capabilities, focusing on developing key strengths of the organization, addressing areas of improvement and partner with other organizations to achieve common goals.

 

They will play a critical role in communicating the organization strategy internally and externally so that all associates and partners understand the strategic plan.

 

This position potentially interacts with MetLife Executive Group, Global Technology and Operations Executive Leadership Team, and many other senior leaders in the organization.

 


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills 

Provides Chief of Staff support for the VP, Head of Hosting, including content creation and facilitation of town halls, leadership onsite and offsite meetings and managing the schedule for all key business activities across the organization. Plan and develop presentation materials for the town halls and leadership meetings, ensuring clear sequence in messaging that aligns with the overall strategy.

 

Handles complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands. They must also have the demonstrated ability to deal with highly confidential information and act as a liaison between the VP and other organizations, both internal and external.

 

Manages governance and oversight for key vendors monitoring performance and financial delivery.

 

Works strategically and develops on-going relationships with a wide cross-functional team of partners/stakeholders to ensure our objectives and goals are achieved. Collaborate with partners to drive operating metrics and other management routines to ensure priorities are met.

  • Key Stakeholders: CTO/EVPs, CISO, Regional CIOs, SVPs, VPs, Legal, Finance, Audit, Compliance, ITRS, GITO, AD, Digital, D&A, GTS

 

 

Business Knowledge/Technical Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in an IT function, with a focus around Strategy and Planning
  • Demonstrated success in executing and mobilizing large teams around strategic initiatives within a global company.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to build relationships at all levels, work cross-organizationally, and lead through influence
  • High degree of organizational and structured operating skills; able to prioritize appropriate and keep track of multiple concurrent projects and deliverables
  • Demonstrated capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgement, assertiveness
