System Engineer - Midrange

In this position, you will have an opportunity to work with some of the latest technologies in a technologically diverse and complex environment. You will be a member of a team that provides global expert-level engineering support for the MetLife enterprise by engineering both SW & HW solutions and executing changes and requests focused on our Midrange UNIX environment targeting our IBMi/AS400 systems, including AIX and Solaris.

    

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design software and hardware solutions for global platforms
  • Establish yourself as a Subject Matter Expert and a dedicated business partner in working with various Global business and technology teams
  • Proactively analyzes systems and programs in search of process improvements.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and implementations and be responsible for the analysis and resolution of reoccurring incidents and makes recommendations for permanent fixes including root cause analysis
  • Provide expert level support for IBMi/AS400
  • Responsible for the planning and analysis of new solutions for improved troubleshooting, problem isolation and/or OS/application monitoring.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 5+ years providing large enterprise (5k+ employees) support specialized on Midrange (IBMi/AS400) operational support
  • 5+ years providing support for backups/recovery of IBMi/AS400 systems  
  • 5+ years conducting in depth technical analysis of systems including governance of Midrange infrastructure framework, architecture, and disaster recovery/business continuity.

Preferred:

  • Experience with CL programming
  • Solid understanding of related technologies such as SAN storage, VIOS, HMC, replication, AIX OS, disaster recovery and converged infrastructure.
  • ITIL Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technology field or equivalent
  • Automation, Python (or similar)
