Role Value Proposition: 

Works with Business and IT partners to understand and analyze data requirements and point to the right attributes in MetLife Data Hub (MDH), documents end to end lineage from the source systems to APIs when not available, maps and creates reusable and consumable data assets. The Data Analyst will become an expert on MDH data and must understand theirs specs, transformation rules, usage and applicability to support business and strategic initiatives. Promotes best practices like Data Governance to improve data definitions and data quality. Provides detailed data analysis and recommendations after querying samples, profiling and summarizing results.      

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of data requirements and data lineage documentation
  • Perform in-depth analysis of large amounts of data to determine content, consistency, and quality
  • Work closely with architects, project managers, developers, testers, business users, and external partners to provide proper analysis and ensure products confirm to business data needs
  • Ensure that data are produced via consistent and reusable processes and documentation aligns with the data that will be received and stored in the MDH. This results in defined and clear documentation that is readily available for current and future consumption of the data.
  • Develop utilities to speed the process of data analysis, including but not limited to: writing code and SQL to extract data from databases, manipulating any extracted data to be formatted and structured differently, providing details of any analysis completed.

 

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

 

  • Business acumen:  translating knowledge and understanding of the business into anticipation of  needs, quick decisions, and good judgment on data use and integration
  • Detail oriented, problem-solver, inquisitive; takes ownership of new challenges and does not let go until resolution
  • Experience in data Modeling, Quality, Curation, Governance, Metadata, Lineage, SPI/APIs and Data Analysis Process.
  • In depth understanding of metadata and SPI/API integration concepts.
  • Able to write complex SQL code queries using tools like AQT or Microsoft SQL.  

 

Preferred:

  • Role models communication and interpersonal skills; develops strong stakeholder relationships; acts as liaison between business and IT personnel
  • Strategic thinker with ability to review data, industry trends, and information to implement and drive change
  • Able to work in dynamic, collaborative, and open environment
  • Experience in data quality, reporting and lineage tools like; Alteryx, IMM, Collibra and Tableau.
  • Practical experience in Data modeling (LDM-PDM)
  • Knowledge of Apache/Hadoop Hbase
