Here at MetLife we are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead the technical delivery of a complex and highly visible project in the Global Sales and Servicing Platform. The ideal candidate will possess prior technical leadership experience in insurance industry, strong development, communication, collaboration, and project management skills. Also have hands-on experience in leading complex financial systems projects using internal and external data in advanced analytics with ability to influence people across the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Converts business problems into programming instructions.
  • Designs and codes programs; creates test transactions and runs tests; revises as necessary.
  • Conducts analysis of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems.
  • Monitors operating efficiency of existing application systems.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and modifies programming systems, including encoding, testing, debugging and installing for a large-scale system.
  • Maintains records to document program development and revisions.
  • Provides technical support to technical vendor resources.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: ­­

 

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree required 
  • Minimum 3+ years of design and development experience
  • Strong understanding of CS fundamentals, Object Oriented Design, algorithm design and Data Structures.
  • Strong Web Application development experience preferably using Spring, Java, Node.js and JavaScript.
  • Experience with modern web technologies and techniques such as HTML5, CSS3, ECMAScript 2016, CSS preprocessors (SASS, Less), JavaScript transpilers (Babel, TypeScript), and JavaScript build tools (Broweserify, WebPack, Gulp, Grunt)
  • Experience in Solution Design, Data modelling, REST API design
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in computer science or technical discipline or equivalent.
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
  • Highly-motivated and thrive in an environment where problems are open-ended.
  • Enjoy engaging in passionate discussions with people and letting the best ideas rise to the top.
  • Understanding of container and orchestration technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Swarm etc.
  • Excited about technology, have a strong interest in learning and playing with the latest technologies.
  • Working independently and able to manage large scale projects
