Role Value Proposition: 

The Linux Engineer on the Hosting Security and Resiliency team provides technical expertise in research, evaluation, design, and delivery of scalable and repeatable solutions to harden and optimize the virtualized and bare-metal hosting of RHEL in MetLife’s environment. This person will be a critical team member on key technology projects and responsible for driving innovative technology according to the team roadmap and strategy. Success in this role is building strong partnerships spanning Networking, Compute, Storage, Application, and Automation/Orchestration teams. This role delivers the ability for MetLife to secure complex infrastructure solutions under a consistent global strategy with a strong understanding of the applications hosted in these environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • This is a thought leadership position which requires strong Linux server technical skills, a solid understanding of practical OS security/resiliency, and self-initiative to lead and deliver on critical projects and meet commitments.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to establish, communicate, and drive consistent and scalable technology standards and technical solutions that span multiple disciplines (e.g., security, monitoring, automation, orchestration, service management) in relation to Linux server infrastructure.
  • Owns process, structure, and best practices for the improvement, deployment, and operational readiness of key technologies including security tools, resiliency solutions, and automation capabilities.
  • Participates when needed on Major Incidents and Root Cause analysis in collaboration with various teams.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 10+ years of related work experience with Linux (prefer RHEL).
  • 7+ years of scripting – Bash, Python, YAML, etc. – for task execution as well as automated solutions.
  • 5+ years of practical IT security experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong self-initiative to lead major projects related to hardening the RHEL environment.
  • Experience as Technical Lead, providing technical guidance and oversight to teams.
  • Experience in improving efficiency of the platform and leverage emerging tools/technologies.
  • Understanding of related technologies such as SAN storage, replication, disaster recovery, and converged infrastructure.
  • Experience working in a large corporate environment.


  • Ansible and/or Chef lifecycle management of playbooks, recipes, updates, etc.
  • Experience with extended Red Hat technologies (e.g., Satellite, SSSD, GFS2).
  • Experience with Linux servers on a major cloud provider (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Familiarity with IT Security audits and industry security standards.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code build pipelines.
  • Source control (e.g., Bitbucket, AzDO, GIT), IaaS.
  • Experience in working closely with Procurement/Vendor Management teams on purchases and acquisitions.
  • ITIL4, SAFe, and/or IT Security training or certifications
  • A strong personality that knows when to stand for what is needed and when to negotiate.
