Role Value Proposition: 

MetLife is seeking a Senior IT Project Lead to join our growing team in Cary, NC. The associate will be experienced in dealing with complex cross-functional or enterprise wide application development projects with the ability to drive both effective and efficient outcomes.  It is expected that the project manager, while working independently, will drive these software engineering projects from original concept through final implementation and will be able to communicate with stakeholders and leaders the status of specific projects within the group and individual disability insurance space.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees very large/critical technology projects, typically spanning the entire organization or including various and distinct lines of business & serves as a liaison between the business and the IT area, driving varied business needs into application software solutions.
  • Responsible for identifying and resolving project interdependencies, overlap and integration concerns across other projects; and lead prioritization and sequencing exercises across all channels.
  • Apply an expert understanding of business needs, goals, and challenges and connects them to the projects in order to tell a single story.
  • Manages critical relationships with IT, consultants and vendors, internal end users, and business customers/leadership.
  • Leads and motivates project team members that are not direct reports across various functional areas utilizing strong problem resolution skills and negotiating agreements in a matrix environment
  • Leads project meetings and provides updates to senior leadership regarding project status and the application and implementation of technology.
  • Designs, implements, and monitors the progress of initiatives, milestones, and budgets to ensure timelines and deliverables are met.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 5+ years of hands-on project management and execution experience delivering complex software projects using standard SDLC processes with experience in Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • 2+ years’ experience managing project finances
  • Strong relationship management and facilitation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Very strong presentation and communication skills with experience providing communication to senior leaders
  • Exceptional analytical skills with demonstrated ability to apply analysis to actionable insights
  • Organizational intelligence and strong influence management/cross-functional leadership skills; adept at working in a matrixed structure
  • Knowledgeable in office productivity tools (MS Office suite, etc.)



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other Information Systems/Technical discipline
  • PMP Certification
  • Experience with financial/portfolio/project management software (e.g. Clarity, MS Project) 
  • Work history within financial services, insurance and/or with disability products
