Role Value Proposition

This role will serve as a Senior Automation engineer for MetLife's Deployment Engineering and Automation team and will be responsible for transforming manual processes and procedures into automated, repeatable, self-service solutions. The Senior Automation Engineer will help define the tools and technologies used to enable automation across IT including self-service, IT process automation, and infrastructure lifecycle in a hybrid cloud environment. This individual will bring a passion for technology, a strong technical skillset, and proven experience in the Automation or DevOps space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally to evaluate processes and procedures for automation opportunities. Identify process improvement opportunities to allow successful conversion to an automated process
  • Define, implement, and manage toolsets required to enable self-service infrastructure and process automation. Create a framework for other IT teams to utilize in automating jobs, processes, and tasks. Act as a consultant to those teams to train staff and define automation best practices
  • Work with Cloud, Infrastructure, and Network teams to automate lifecycle, configuration management, and issue remediation utilizing infrastructure as code (IAC)
  • Work with Service Management and Operations teams to automate support and end-user self-service processes
  • Focus on cloud-native services and optimizing the automation landscape through the adoption of these services
  • Contribute to technical discussions both internally and with vendor teams
  • Produce high-quality, well-written technical documentation, including design plans, implementation diagrams, data flow mappings, and as-built documents
  • Lead transformational initiatives focused on improving and simplifying the way we do business
  • Stay current on industry trends and new technologies and recommend future initiatives
  • Work effectively with other team members, customers, and key stakeholders and foster team success
  • Be a positive force within the team and ready to roll up your sleeves

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, major in Computer Science or related discipline strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and experience building automation which creates process efficiencies and provides business value
  • Hands-on experience with designing, building, configuring, integrating, and managing key components of a fully automated tool stack
  • 2+ years of experience in a role that encompasses software development, DevOps, or a similar role utilizing infrastructure as code to deploy and manage infrastructure lifecycle
  • 3+ years of experience with various scripting, development, and data technologies including PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, JSON, YAML, XML, etc. to automate processes through CLI and REST API interfaces
  • Experience in support and troubleshooting of diverse enterprise technology systems (Server systems, networks, telephony, messaging, and storage)
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to effectively convey concepts to business and technology peers as well as senior management
  • Highly motivated to learn new technologies and evaluate its application in MetLife
  • Well organized and able to work independently with minimal direction



  • Certifications in any of these areas: Azure, Agile/Scrum certified (CSM, CSPO SAFe), RedHat, MCSA
  • 2+ years of experience with administering and selecting automation toolsets such as Terraform, Packer, Azure DevOps, Chef, Azure Automation, etc.
  • 2+ years of experience with software development lifecycle, CI/CD, and source control to deliver automation and configuration management
