Role Value Proposition: 
This role sits within our infrastructure engineering group in a team responsible for database platform engineering. The Senior Database Engineer role requires the ability to apply practical experience and learned technical skills to manage diverse DBMS technologies, data replication, DBMS technologies tools, including the orchestration of engineering, implementation, monitoring, infrastructure support & application support. Individual should be able to integrate complex database strategies and solutions with various infrastructure solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

•Assists in planning, installing, customizing, testing and administering Oracle DBMS, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle internet directory LDAP, Shareplex, GoldenGate and related tools.
•Participates in planning and recommendations for database software and architecture including infrastructure optimization.
•Participates in the development of strategies and directions for database solutions using current and emerging technologies.
•Interface with Application Developers, Business and vendors to resolve system problems and provide technical support on-call 24X7 off hours support as needed.
•Partners with the Capacity Management team to understand database hardware trends shown in performance studies and benchmarks to ensure business and customer expectations are maintained and exceeded.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required Experience:
•4+ Years of experience performing Oracle engineering functions:  Installation, configuration, support, monitoring.  
•4+ years of experience working with Oracle Enterprise Monitor, OID and Shareplex, GoldenGate engineering functions:  Installation, configuration, support, monitoring. 

•4+ Years of experience with one or more operating systems i.e. UNIX, Linux, and Windows as part of the Database environment with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting experience.
•3+ years of hands-on experience in building and troubleshooting continuously available and high performing database environments.
•4+ years of hands-on experience in design and developing Automation/Scripting (shell, Perl, PowerShell….).
•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline


Preferred Experience:

•Some knowledge in one or more technologies like BI Tools, NOSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, and HBase), Data Appliances (Netezza, Teredata or similar) and/or  other Big Data technologies like Hadoop or BigInsight
•Some knowledge of one or more tools like Guardium, DB performance and DB automation

•Knowledge of software licensing for Oracle

•Vendor certification in at least one DBMS and related technology is preferred

•Experience with SQL Server
