MetLife is seeking a Sr Business Systems Analyst to join our growing team in Cary, NC.  This team member will collaborate closely with business partners, application development and testing support teams.  With a laser focus on customer needs and outcomes, the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for eliciting, refining, documenting, reviewing and communicating requirements.  We need a customer oriented, technically savvy communicator to provide technical guidance concerning the business implications of application development projects, in order to meet initiative goals.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Act as a primary SME liaison between business users/BAs and IT project team;
  • Manage user expectations and requirements scope
  • Gathers, analyzes, documents, and manages business and/or functional requirements for various initiatives;
  • Facilitate functional requirements walkthroughs and respond to Test team ambiguity review questions;
  • Drive alignment between business users and technical teams; fight against us/them mentality
  • Facilitates meetings and provides minutes, captures action items, and monitors/tracks open items and/or work stream tasks to resolution;


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Participates in fit/gap analysis of functional requirements and lead functional documentation design (use cases, functional specifications, reports, screen prototypes);
  • Coordinates testing with the QA Team, while assisting with creation of required testing artifacts where applicable;
  • Work closely with Project Manager, architects, developers, Test team, business users/BAs and applicable outside entities (vendors and others);
  • Contribute to user guides, reference manuals, training materials and code release artifacts as appropriate and actively participates in change management activities;
  • Works with Project Manager to ensure compliance to System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and provides estimates for BSA work efforts on new projects and for on-going forecasting;



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2-3 years experience with reverse engineering, back engineering, process mapping.
  • Significant Software Development Life Cycle knowledge and experience, or comparable methodologies
  • Background and Experience using programming languages
  • Experience creating  Business and/or Functional Requirements  using user stories or equivalent.
  • Experience doing data analysis and using query languages (i.e.. SQL)Experience with functional testing
  • Microsoft Suite of Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio (or other design tools)).




  • Agile background
  • Understanding of requirements elicitation techniques
  • Insurance or financial services industry experience
  • Experience with requirements management and collaboration tools (Blueprint, iRise, or equivalent)
  • Certification from the International Institute of Business Analyst (IIBA)
