As the Release Train Engineer (RTE) over the Group Core Employee - Life Agile Release Train (ART), you will act as a servant leader over a group of IT and Business experts to facilitate ART events and deliver on software development commitments made by the team.  As a critical component within US Group Benefits, the Life ART is responsible for supporting the Life Policy Administration platforms, Statement of Health, and Life Claims.  This position will closely collaborate with a diverse team of business and application owners, product owners, system architects, scrum leaders, and software development & test engineers to select and design the solutions needed for a wide range of business initiatives within the MetLife portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide daily leadership and coaching to product owners, scrum leaders, team members, and Agile managers in the successful adoption and application of Scaled Agile practices.
  • Establish and facilitate ART level Agile ceremonies such as PI Planning, Product Owner Sync, Scrum of Scrums, Inspect and Adapt Workshops, Innovation and Sprint Planning events along with a continuous exploration and refinement process.
  • Summarize and publish program increment (PI) objectives and commitments for visibility and transparency across all parties involved with the ART.
  • Track the delivery of features and stories that have been committed to by the various scrum teams within the ART, ensuring that the delivery of features meets the agreed upon Definition of Done for the ART.
  • Drive the escalation and actions for impediment removal for the scrum teams by fostering collaboration throughout the ART and with external partners.
  • Lead the identification and management of program risks.
  • Coach ART members across roles in Scaled Agile practices and encourage the exploration and adoption of Agile engineering practices such as test automation, CI/CD, ATDD/BDD, and Agile architecture.
  • Assist with process development and process improvement for the delivery of team commitments through the use of burn-down charts, cumulative flow diagrams, program velocity, and any other tool deemed relevant for the ART.
  • Lead development of best practices for MetLife’s Agile Delivery Model (ADM) and encourage other Train and ART leaders to continuously improve their portfolios through experimentation and shared experiences

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (12+ years of experience in Software Engineering Project Management).
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills
  • Strong communications skills (written and verbal) with emphasis on facilitating meetings (in-person and virtual)
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for managing Epics, Features, Stories, and Tasks.
  • Deep knowledge of software development lifecycles including SAFe Agile development and testing.
  • Experience identifying and managing Risks, Actions, Issues, and Dependencies
  • Prior experience as an RTE or Scrum Leader.  Will consider an individual with Program Management experience that has completed SAFe RTE Certification.

 

Preferred (one or more):

  • Experience with Group Insurance
  • Previous experience coaching and mentoring individuals
  • SAFe certified or other Scaled Agile frameworks: Scrum Alliance CSM or CSP certification, PMI’s Agile Certified Professional (ACP)
  • Agile or Professional Coaching certification

The wage range for applicants for this position is [the more specific figure (for example (only): $80,000) or range within which the hiring manager reasonably expects to hire (for example (only): $70,000 - $85,000)]. The role is eligible for incentive compensation under the sales incentive plan for your position.
