Within CEC, the Privacy Compliance Group (PCG) is a central oversight team responsible for the design, maintenance, and oversight of the global privacy compliance program for MetLife. The role is an individual contributor supporting MetLife’s U.S. Privacy Compliance Program (“Program”) reporting directly to the Head of U.S. Privacy Compliance. The primary responsibilities include supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Program, providing privacy compliance advice to business groups and functions, managing personal data incidents, monitoring compliance with privacy obligations, and evaluating privacy risk assessments and privacy risks associated with MetLife’s third parties. The role supports privacy coverage for the U.S. Holding Companies, U.S. Group Benefits, Retirement and Income Solutions and Investments businesses, and Corporate Functions.


Key Responsibilities: 


  • Support the Head of U.S. Privacy with development and maintenance of the Program, including the creation of privacy policies, standards and procedures, oversight of issues and regulatory changes, and conducting monitoring and testing of privacy controls for adherence to obligations
  • Investigate and manage personal data incidents, coordinating with Legal Affairs and other partners to fully document personal data incidents, performs a thorough investigation and root cause analysis, identifies notification obligations, and provides advice on risk mitigation techniques
  • Evaluate privacy risk assessments and privacy risks of MetLife’s third parties
  • Provide training to MetLife employees on privacy, data protection and personal data incidents, and develop routine privacy awareness communications
  • Develop privacy reporting and metrics for stakeholders and senior management
  • Support key aspects of the HIPAA Compliance Program


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:




  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years relevant business experience, with compliance, legal, risk management, information technology experience preferred
  • Sound knowledge and proven ability to analyze and apply U.S. federal and state privacy and data protection laws and regulations, including GLBA, HIPAA, CCPA, NYDFS, state data breach notification laws
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in complex problem solving and analytical thinking
  • Relationship building and experience interacting with colleagues at various levels of an organization, with an ability to mobilize and lead stakeholders through investigations involving issues and personal data incidents
  • Ability to manage multiple and concurrent priorities
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft suite of products including, Word, PowerPoint and Excel




  • JD degree from an accredited law school
  • 2+ years directly supporting privacy programs
  • Privacy related qualifications such as IAPP certifications
  • Experience in leading or supporting major incidents involving privacy, cybersecurity, or technology
