The Principal Automation Engineer is a member of an IT Automation organization providing guidance across all automation efforts within MetLife. This automation engineer will be responsible for providing strategic direction for IT process automation solutions in support of the overall enterprise automation initiative and will act a subject matter specialist in ITPA, Orchestration Services, and Artificial Intelligence technologies as they apply to enterprise scale IT automation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading solution design, service delivery, and end-to-end oversight for process automation efforts
  • Governing automation projects & coordinating with business stakeholders and IT leads
  • Developing enterprise-wide reference architectures that facilitate process automation, process documentation, and workflow automation
  • Collaborating with IT and business teams, and providing technical advice as necessary
  • Monitoring emerging industry trends to determine impact on the enterprise solution architecture and technology, and advising strategic direction
  • Facilitating training and product sessions for users and IT
  • Collaborating with Business and Enterprise Architecture teams to instill precision and automation in program delivery
  • Installing and configuring automation technologies, including infrastructure requirements and recommendations at enterprise scale and business continuity
  • Developing a framework for automation projects to establish manageability and maintainability of automation operations from cradle to grave
  • Conducting process automation assessments for automation with recommendations for benefits and savings


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:



  • Passionate about Automation
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to envisage how an automated solution will work in the wider business environment to understand its advantages and what its effect will be
  • Experience implementing IT process Automation, Intelligent Automation, or RPA programs or platforms with an enterprise environment
  • Demonstrating thorough software troubleshooting skills and an understanding of programming constructs (JavaScript, Python, PowerShell, Bash)
  • Understanding of workflow-based logic and the ability to both understand a business process from a workflow diagram, and to illustrate a written process description as a workflow diagram




  • Experience supporting large IT data center environments, including support of multiple hardware and software platforms and operating systems such as Windows, Linux, or UNIX
  • Able to work in an Agile / SCRUM methodology to organize and execute projects
  • Experience in configuration management platforms (Chef, Ansible) and exposure to Infrastructure-As-Code concepts
  • Exposure to Cloud Infrastructure & PaaS and SaaS platforms, Git, Azure Devops
  • Understanding on CI/CD concepts and methodologies
  • Self-motivated who can deliver on tight schedules with minimal supervision
