Role Value Proposition: 

The Principal Architect reports to the Director of Corporate Systems as a hands-on individual contributor working with the Actuarial LOB and it’s GTO constituents.  The candidate will develop conceptual and solution architectures and provide technology leadership for applications, platforms and processes in this LOB.  The candidate shall be able to understand business concepts, devise relevant solutions and communicate them to a broad set of constituents within the Actuarial LOB and at all levels of the organization.  The Architect will be responsible for assisting in the adoption and implementation of a broad swath of third party SAAS and PAAS systems such as People Soft, Success Factors, Service Now, Clarity, JIRA, TFS, GIT, and many more.     


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Developers, Infrastructure and Business personnel across all levels of the organization and synthesize disparate information into a viable architecture for the challenge at hand.
  • Jointly create 3-year roadmaps aligning LOBs strategic desires with enterprise reference architectures
  • Provide leadership in developing standards. Ensure architectural governance and l best practices
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture and other development teams to ensure consistency and adoption of reference architectures across a multi asset class platform inclusive of data, workflow, logical processes, hardware, tools etc.
  • Ensures consistency and maintainability of solutions by hardening designs for fault tolerance and ensuring standards and procedures are implemented.
  • Ensure deliverables follow the blue print prescribed in the architecture co-authored with App Dev teams
  • Acts as a senior domain expert and technical authority for corporate systems
  • Mentors team through with new technologies, techniques and governance


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree in CompSci, MIS, CIS, Math, or Engineering disciplines
  • 5+ years of experience developing and implementing solutions that utilize the full stack 
  • 3+ years experience technically leading projects of varying sizes and scopes
  • Applied experience in data-centric architectures inclusive of ETL, Modeling, OLAP, OLTP, and Big Data
  • BI/reporting tooling knowledge (PowerBI, Qlik, SSRS, SSAS) in relation to different reporting requirements (Ad-hoc/what-if analysis vs. production reports)
  • Ability to interface with customers at varying levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • IaaS computing in a hybrid architecture
  • Experience with data science tools such as PYTHON, R, etc
  • Understanding security architectures including standards, business processes and cloud
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications synthesizing architectures to IT SMEs and business leaders. 


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience implementing reference architectures utilizing a broad spectrum of Apache’s big data stack. E.G. HDFS, HBASE, KAFKA, FLUME, SPARK
  • 5 + years of experience in a development role with a solid mix of the following related technologies: C#, Java, SOA, REST, WebAPI, Spring, JSON, XML
  • Developing cloud based solutions preferably utilizing Azure
  • Experience with containers utilizing any of the following Kubernetes, Docker, Docker Swarm.
  • Experience with big data solutions such as Mongo, HDFS, HBASE, COSMOSDB, Elastic
  • Recent experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps with TFS (CI, CD, CT) 
  • Applied experience with frameworks for NOSQL such as MongoDB, COSMOSDB.
  • Applied experience with High performance compute architectures (Microsoft HPC)
  • Investments / capital markets experience, insurance or related
  • Experience with Treasury Functions including Cash Management and payment processing
  • Actuarial modeling platforms including Prophet, Polysystems or AON Pathwise
