Role Value Proposition: 

The Hosting Architect provides expertise in research, evaluation, engineering design, and delivery of hosting solutions for MetLife’s applications. This Principal level position requires strong leadership, self-initiative, and technical acumen to lead and deliver on critical projects and meet commitments. Success in this role will depend on the candidate’s ability to focus on evaluating existing implementations, building strong partnerships, and create consensus to develop projects for new or improved hosting solutions. This role delivers the ability for MetLife to implement complex infrastructure solutions under a consistent global strategy with a strong understanding of the applications hosted in these environments.

    

Key Responsibilities:

  • This is a Principal level position which requires strong leadership, self-initiative, and technical acumen to lead and deliver on critical projects and meet commitments.
  • Provides architectural guidance, documents design points, and performs technical evaluation of new technologies through a hands-on approach
  • Engages functional peers to develop end-to-end architectural system designs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • Establishes, communicates, and drives unified global technology standards, develop and maintain roadmaps, and provide technical solutions
  • Participates in the evaluation of new and existing hosting requirements and assists in the selection, design, development and implementation of converged and hyper-converged technologies and their respective eco-system (monitoring, automation, orchestration, service management) components
  • Develops best practice approaches for the deployment and operational readiness of key technologies including hypervisor-based tools, automation capabilities, and new product introductions
  • Participates in L4 situations and Root Cause analysis in partnership with various platform teams
     

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

 

Required:

  • 8+ years’ experience or familiarity with application architecture (3-tier applications, container architecture)
  • 8+ years’ related work experience with Linux and Windows and their related components
  • 5+ years’ experience or familiarity with networking and storage architectures
  • 5+ years’ scripting for automation/orchestration – PowerShell, Bash, Python, YAML, JSON, etc.
  • 5+ years’ experience generating system architecture documentation
  • Expert at visualizing IT infrastructure components end-to-end using tools such as Visio, PowerPoint, or Miro
  • Experience as a Technical Lead, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to peers
  • Experience creating and communicating complex architectural runways to agile focused teams

 

Preferred:

  • 4-year degree in any Information Technology field or equivalent professional certifications
  • Microsoft Azure foundational knowledge
  • Windows Server, RHEL OS, and general UNIX
  • Chef or Ansible playbook creation
  • Source control (GitHub, Bitbucket, or similar)
  • Experience with how applications are implemented and maintained on servers
  • Understanding of related technologies such as SAN storage, replication, disaster recovery and converged infrastructure.
  • Experience in working closely with Procurement/Vendor Management teams on purchases and acquisitions
