Role Value Proposition: 

We are looking for a Manager of Software Development Engineering to join our Global Employee Benefits IT team. The incumbent will set high standards of performance for self and others, set work objectives, focus the team, monitor efforts of the team and help ensure business objectives are met with high degree of quality. Will also lead financial annual review planning and project approval request processes for the team, and develops SOW, deliverables and SLA partnering with vendors & suppliers and managing their efforts. Will be responsible for project schedule development, cost estimating and management, and overall quality of the deliverables.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Influence the priorities and financial responsibilities of other teams, to ensure GEB priorities are included and accounted for in their plans and understand the full complement of technologies and services offered by our partner teams and how those can be leveraged by GEB
  • Leverage industry experience and specific technical experience to identify and recommend technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with Business Partners, IT teams and SMEs to ensure business requirements and functional designs effectively leverage approved technical capabilities.
  • Manage team priorities in partnership with AMS (application maintenance support services) – ensure we receive the full complement of services, including DR planning, defect remediation, incident and root cause analysis etc. and work with IT shared services and provide guidance on timelines for deployments and project management oversight as well as technical support
  • Follows approved SDLC and project management methodology, ensuring that all required steps are followed, required deliverables are produced, and all approvals are obtained, and will be engaged in code deployment activities and required weekend activities
  • Manages and oversees the full system development process, and turnover to production, providing technical and analytical support and guidance to project team members. 
  • Understands technologies used in the application development space, has clear view on viability of our hardware and operating systems and oversees ongoing activities to ensure we remain current and within approved versions

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Information Systems or Computer Applications (or equivalent)
  • 8+ years of related experience in SDLC
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and drive change through influence
  • Prior experience with complex, global matrix environments and management relationships – ability to lead development staff and vendors, on / offshore teams
  • Skills with project tracking software – i.e. MS Project and/or Clarity as well as MS office (Excel, Office, PPT, Access)
  • Understanding of key industry technologies including SQL, WAS, Linux

 

Preferred:

  • Work experience in Insurance and/or Financial service industry
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of Life, Health and Voluntary insurance products
