Role Summary

The Manager of Data Quality is a part of the Data Management team who will be responsible for executing on quality management activities within the MetLife data organization.  This individual will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Data Quality (DQ) team. The Data DQ Center of Excellence is being built with a mission to deliver DQ strategy, best practices, and provide services to define DQ requirements, manage DQ projects, develop DQ rules and perform analysis on DQ exceptions.


This individual will implement plans and policies for improving data quality and enforcement of quality standards.  This individual will also implement policies and procedures to support the data quality infrastructure while driving practical strategies and specific sub-function objectives.  A key part of this role is being responsible for facilitating data quality projects and managing data collection for quality and data population management efforts.


Key Responsibilities


•            Responsible for executing DQ and Data QA strategy in development projects – promoting a quality mindset across the organization

•            Working with cross-departmental managers to deliver high quality products on schedule

•            Assures quality data product and processes by upholding data quality and testing standards

•            Work with project managements during Data Development, and Data Architecture to execute DQ/Data QA strategies to meet and exceed department and corporate quality goals

•            Implementation of the defined DQ/Data QA strategy, methodology, discipline and framework

•            Drive team knowledge base of best practices, guidelines, standards and training for the DQ and Data QA community to enable and accelerate their DQ and Data QA initiatives

•            Ensure data development tasks meet quality criteria through test planning, test execution, quality assurance and issue tracking

•            Responsible for the daily activities of the team that manages all the DQ and Data QA activities, test results, leaked defects, root cause analysis and identifying areas of improvement.  Partner with Data Quality Director to implement steps required to improve the processes

•            Focus on continuous DQ and Data QA improvement including usage of appropriate testing tools, test techniques, test automation

•            Manage as hands-on leader the implementation of a DQ and Data Quality Assurance and creation of data quality rules and building a repository of rule definitions

•            Manage user stories from the Data Quality and develop technical requirements

•            Be an advocate for Data Quality and Data QA, continuous improvement and industry best practices

•            Ensuring Data QA team is operating in an efficient way utilizing automated testing and agile testing

•            Gather data testing metrics and testing activities for the projects to provide to leadership for presentation

•            Maintaining Data Quality and Data QA documentation and updating of procedures

•            People management responsibility, including day-to-day management, training and development.


Position Requirements

•            Education: Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience (5+ years)

•            Hands-on experience implementing data quality framework and working knowledge of data quality tooling

•            Experience managing Data Quality and Data QA teams

•            Deep experience with Data Quality and Data QA measuring and testing both in Cloud and On-premise setups

•            Deep experience managing data testing methods or testing functions in managing large and complex activities and processes

•            Extensive experience in Data QA management across multiple projects (offshore and in-house)

•            Prior experience working with Data Profiling and Data Quality tools

•            Proven track record of providing regular direction, mentoring, and coaching to Data QA team members, ensuring the success of the team’s manual and automation efforts

•            Experience managing/working with geographically distributed and culturally diverse work-groups with strong intra-team management and coaching skills

•            Ability to build and implement Quality Assurance principles and maintain the quality of delivery

•            Ability to handle conflict effectively

•            Able to communicate with management and peers within the organization

•            Able to motivate a team, recognize good talent and bring out the best in each individual

•            Strong communication skills with all the key stakeholders to ensure Data QA vision is understood and implemented correctly

•            Working knowledge of data quality system requirements

•            Excellent prioritization, planning, organization and time management skills

•            Proven ability to work across diverse groups, build consensus and execute agreed upon plans

•            Ability to structure communications to various reporting levels (from analyst to management) and audiences (across departments)

•            Good analytical and problem solving skills

•            Good knowledge and skills in MS-Office

•            Effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate/articulate technical and functional issues with conclusions and recommendations to department and program leadership

•            Ability to develop and maintain robust relationships with peers and stakeholders

•            Ability to quickly understand a complex matrix of systems across infrastructures, interdependences and relationships


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

•            5-7+ years of strong background in implementing data quality framework, automated testing and agile testing

•            Experience with data quality tools utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning

•            Experience with industry-tested data quality tools

•            Strong SQL skills

•            Ability and prior experience working on a cloud platform (Azure preferred)

•            Ability to script in Python preferred
