As a Lead Software Development Engineer in the US AD Solutions Delivery organization in Cary, NC, you will be responsible for detailed technical design and development of applications using existing and emerging technology platforms to solve complex business problems. The role will focus on creating innovative solutions in support of bringing new products to national, regional and small markets. Drive key process improvements thru adoption and evangelizing new technology.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Converts specifications about business problems into programming instructions
  • Conducts analysis of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems
  • Reviews, analyzes, and modifies programming systems, including encoding, testing, debugging and installing for a large-scale system
  • Designs and codes complex programs; creates automated test transactions and runs tests; revises as necessary
  • Monitors operating efficiency of existing application systems
  • Maintains records to document program development and revisions
  • Provides technical and work guidance to a team of SDE’s, Consultants and/or offshore resources
  • Provides technical support to technical vendor resources
  • As appropriate- Designs business process models; designs business rules and algorithms
  • Works closely with Enterprise Architecture to ensure the solution and design are in alignment with MetLife IT roadmap


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 8+ years’ experience in Software Development with strong hands-on experience with a mix of the following:
    • Technologies: Java, J2EE, Java Spring Framework (Core Module, Database Module), C++, C, Webservices (SOAP and RESTful), Servlets, Junit, Easymock and Mockito testing framework, Design patterns, Shell Scripting, Unix (AIX/Linux)
    • Internet Technologies: HTML, XML, XSL, XSD, JSP, Java Script, jQuery, AJAX Controls
    • Tools: Azure DevOps, Maestro, Service Now, Rational Application Development, Putty, AQT , Splunk, HP Service Manager, qTest, GIT, Tortoise SVN, BitBucket, Bamboo, UCD, LTS Next, WebSphere, Rational Software Architect, Rational Clear Case, Rational Clear Quest, Visual Source Safe, TRAC tools, Jenkins, Jira
    • Relational database management systems (RDBMS): Data Studio, WinSQL, DB2, SQL, SPUFI, Optim
  • Systems analyst skills and technical background to develop technical solutions
  • Proven Agile, Lean, DevOps knowledge and experience
  • Strong Project Management and Software Development Lifecycle knowledge and experience
  • Accomplished change management leader, able to operate effectively in a highly matrix environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with focused attention to details, as well as, demonstrated professionalism and time/task management skills; ability to establish strong relationships
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field


  • MBA or other advanced degree
  • SAFe Certified 5.x
  • Experience working in Financial Services, Insurance and/or Banking
  • PMP and ITIL v4 certifications
  • Experience managing offshore teams
