Global Data & Analytics organization is the team of expert technologists responsible for building big data platforms and data services with innovative technologies to enable MetLife businesses to generate insights, and value to its customers.  This team plays a central role in Design, Build & Integration of all emerging technologies and cutting-edge products across MetLife Data Hub and Enterprise Data Management Systems.

The Information and Solution design team within the Data and Analytics (DnA) organization works closely with businesses and technology partners (Architecture, Platform and Application Development teams), to facilitate a robust solution design for all incoming requests/projects/programs.


The Lead Software Development Engineer performs a critical role in both strategic and tactical activities of the Digital Office and the Data and Analytics organization by decomposing intake requests and providing solutions design more quickly and with reduced complexity and cost through the creation, application and deployment of reusable solution components and frameworks.

The Lead Software Development Engineer will engage stakeholders and participants, influence approaches, generate artifacts, provide solution design patterns, solicit feedback, communicate and drive collaboration with key partners and business leaders across the Strategy, Delivery, Enterprise Architecture and other organizations across MetLife’s Global Technology and Operations (GTO) and Lines of Business (LOBs). 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high level solution design for major DnA intake requests at all data layers.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce new technology and innovative solutions to implement common methods, practices and processes designed to manage, manipulate and share data across the enterprise.
  • Recognize and understand business needs, mission and challenges. Build networks of relationships and trusted partnerships across functions and work with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Drive creation and refinement of unit cost measurements for key Data and Analytics solution patterns, services, components and sub-components.
  • Formalize, align and refine/optimize solutions, at both a platform and service offering level. Challenge, influence, and continuously improve procedures, processes and artifacts to expedite delivery, improve service quality and enhance service and platform offerings.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Assertive self-starter, with the ability to lead and/or operate effectively in an environment with diverse teams and manage multiple solution design tasks.
  • Avidly and continuously aware of current and emerging data technology.  Sound knowledge of common multi-tier application architectures and solution design patterns, with ability to convey complex IT concepts in a simple and digestible manner.
  • Working experience and technology depth on Big Data Hadoop related distribution and related components.
  • Understanding of data supply chain components including data acquisition, ingestion, curation, Meta data Management, publishing, consumption and governance.
  • 6+ years of experience with undergraduate degree (required). 




  • Strong analytical, organization, and planning skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Working experience with and columnar and graph databases.
  • Experience in evaluating new tools and technology.
