The Group Benefits area in MetLife is growing and the Dental Claims team is looking for an energetic and motivated Lead Software Engineer who is forward-focused, not afraid of experimentation and a team player. In this role, you will be working on a set of applications that deliver dental claims management, adjudication, and payment, as well as collaborating and interfacing with partners to deliver on enterprise-level strategic initiatives. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, implement and maintain the application using mainframe-based technologies including leading a team of engineers working in the onshore-offshore model.
  • Lead the modernization efforts of the application set, to increase agility to handle ever changing policy and regulatory provisions
  • Write/update the technical and system documentation explaining in detail the changes done and their impact.
  • Prepare test scenarios, test cases, and test data, execute the testing, and document the results following the standard project processes.
  • Collaborate with:
    • Development team members (including offshore consultants) in designing, developing, and testing the system modification.
    • Business Systems Analysis in brainstorming sessions, refining use cases, providing technical inputs and reviewing acceptance criteria of each feature and user story.
    • Business teams in requirement gathering and acquiring system knowledge to deliver better software
    • Partnering applications in understanding, designing, and agreeing to the interface requirements
    • Product Owners, Product Managers, Application Owners, and Release Train Engineers
  • Drive Application Changes to enable Test Automation efforts that will support Integration, End to End, and User Acceptance Testing at the overall project or program level.
  • Be innovative and always ready to learn new skills.
  • Be a leader in implementing DevSecOps for the mainframe development space.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on mainframe application development experience working with COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL, SQL, and VSAM.
  • Strong working knowledge of version and revision control tools like Git, and CHANGEMAN.
  • Good experience in developing REST and SOAP APIs using technologies like MQ, zOS Connect and IDz.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and debug both online and batch using tools like IBM Debugger.
  • Working experience with mainframe DevOps, Scrum Framework, and SAFe Agile methodologies.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and be able to work in an open, collaborative environment to support both individual and team objectives.
  • Experience working in a multi-site onshore-offshore model with the ability to mentor and guide multiple geographically dispersed Agile development teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred:

  • SAFe Certified.
  • Experience in Medical or Dental Claims.
  • Familiarity with Group Insurance
  • Experience with Java Development on non-mainframe environments and Cloud Technologies.
