Role Value Proposition: 

MetLife is seeking an IT Solution Architect to join its centralized Enterprise Architecture team focused on delivering strategic architectural solutions that enable MetLife to meet its business goals. This Solution Architect will work closely with the Director of Corporate Systems Architecture and will be responsible for delivering conceptual and solution designs across the corporate systems portfolio. The architect will primarily be focused human resources, employee experience portals, legal, compliance and risk. The candidate will ensure that all solution architectures and new technology acquisitions are delivered through MetLifes architectural governance review processes and follow established enterprise reference architectures and standards. The architect will also collaborate with business and development partners to deliver future state architectures for the portfolios assigned.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong business and technology acumen in order to develop sound architecture solutions that will meet and exceed business needs. Effective communications with IT and Business associates at all levels including senior management will be required. This position may require some travel depending on current assignment.  

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Leads creating, analyzing and reviewing of assigned solution architecture documentation

  • Leads or participates on multiple, complex or large-scale projects as assigned

  • Leads or participates in the development of Future State Architectures for a given portfolio

  • Leads architectural design and strategy in multiple architectural disciplines (e.g. application architecture, data architecture, infrastructure architecture, integration architecture, etc.)

  • Collaborates with enterprise architecture, application development and business partners as needed to ensure validity of recommended solution architecture

     

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Leads or participates in project planning of architecture activities and provides estimates for architecture work

  • Prepares presentations tailored for various audiences (e.g. executive management, business partners, IT partners, etc.)

  • Maintains a broad, deep understanding of current business applications

  • Maintains a broad, deep understanding of multiple industry technologies and reference architectures

  • Conducts vendor evaluations as needed

  • Ensures architecture standards (reference architectures) and best practices are adhered to

  • Has ability to maintain big picture focus while working on individual solution architectures

  • Proactively keeps management informed of project status, issues, and dependencies

  • Provide ongoing support for Application Development teams in resolving technological issues (e.g. technology compatibility issues, technology implementation issues, etc.)

 

 

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of related architecture experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

  • Experience leading and/or working in a matrixed team

  • Demonstrated inter-personal and consultative proficiency

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication proficiency

  • Demonstrated influencing and negotiating skills

  • Experienced at effectively interacting with associates at all levels

  • Proficient at working independently with minimal supervision while consistently meeting all expectations

  • Ability to lead and/or work simultaneously on multiple large, complex  projects

  • Demonstrated experience in understanding, analyzing, applying, and communicating abstract architectural concepts

  • Proficient at working within the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in a large enterprise

  • Broad knowledge of API Management, API Design and API security (oAuth, Basic Auth)

  • Experience with multiple integration technologies and patterns such as MFT, SOA, REST, ETL, MQ, etc

  • Experience with information architecture and multiple database technologies (e.g. RDBMS, NoSQL, HBase, Hive, etc)

  • Experience with cloud concepts (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS) and major cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure

  • Experience with major languages and design patterns (e.g. .Net, C#, JEE, JavaScript, HTML, JSON, XML, power shell, MVC, Object Oriented design, etc )

  • Experience with security architecture patterns and technologies (e.g. web access management, single sign on, federation (SAML, ADFS), data encryption, etc)

 

Preferred:

  • Experience designing solutions with Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Office 365 platform

  • Experience designing solutions for employee portals within large enterprises

  • Experience with HCM technologies and solutions such as Oracle HCM

  • Experience with corporate legal, ethics and compliance concepts and technologies

  • Experience with enterprise collaboration tools and Unified Communications and Collaboration(UCC) strategy concepts
