Role Value Proposition: 

Engineer’s role is to provide design, engineering and implementation support of MetLife’s enterprise middleware integration platforms. Engineer supports application requirements by designing and automating integration configurations. Engineer provides subject matter expertise across multiple integration technologies such as IBM Integration Bus (IIB), WebSphere Message Queue (WMQ), Cast Iron, and API Connect.  Engineer offers innovative solutions to enhance platform stability, usability and cost effectiveness as well as to leverage emerging technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Provide design and technical support to application developers and operations support staff when required. This includes promoting use of best practices, ensuring standardization across applications and trouble shooting.
  • Design and implement complex integration solutions through collaboration with engineers and application teams across the global enterprise. 
  • Promote and utilize automation to design and support configuration management, orchestration, and maintenance of the integration platforms using tools such as Blade Logic, Perl, Python, and Unix shell.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to understand emerging technologies and their effect on unit cost and service delivery as part of the evolution of the integration technology roadmap.
  • Investigate, recommend, implement and maintain middleware solutions using cloud, open source and container technologies.
  • Investigation of released fix packs, provide well documented instructions and script automation to operations for implementation in collaboration with Senior Engineers in support of platform currency
  • Capacity reviews of current platform.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience across integration products such as IBM MQ, WMB, IIB or similar open source integration technologies.
  • 2+ years of AIX or Linux REHL experience
  • 2+ years of in-depth knowledge on infrastructure architecture, design and implementation best practices and hands-on administrative experience with at least one of the following products: MQ, or WMB (IIB)  on Linux or AIX platforms. .
  • Knowledge of operating system (Linux, Windows, AIX, iSeries)
  • 1-2 years of hands on experience in design and developing scripts for automation (shell, Perl, PowerShell, Python, Java…).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express / translate business needs into technology assisted solutions and the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated and eager to learn new technologies with the ability to work independently.

 

Preferred:

  • 2-3 years of technical experience in two or more of the following technologies WMB (IIB) and/or IBM MQ,  API Connect, WAS or Liberty.
  • 3+ years of experience with administration, troubleshooting, and monitoring across integration products such as MQ, WMB (IIB) or similar open source integration technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience working with TLS certificates, keystores and truststores.
  • Experience with IBM z/OS platform is a plus
  • Understanding of DNS, firewalls, load balances, RDBM's, LDAP, file transfer
  • Knowledge of  Docker and cloud technologies is a plus.
