We are seeking a Director Program Portfolio Operations to join MetLife’s Digitization initiative team. You will be a key member of the US Program Management team, working across a matrix organization to establish best-in-class operational processes, metric organization and tracking, program visibility with interactive sites, and portfolio communications.  Your role will focus on the digital program delivery and expansion activities along with continuous improvement. You will have a consistent record of complex program operations, from inception through implementation, measurement, closure and handover as well as analyzing cost/benefit of feature selection.


Key Responsibilities


  • Establish operational systems, processes, and policies in support of organizations top programs -- specifically, support executive communication and visibility, management reporting, communications management, program visibility, establishing and reporting on key metrics
  • Oversee operational excellence processes and metrics across the portfolio including process improvement, optimization in programs and processes, and financial visibility
  • Own and drive program consolidation reporting and visibility of milestones, program dependencies, risk mitigation and contingency planning, and financials
  • Utilizing technology, develop and maintain interactive program/project sites that effectively model experience roadmaps, drive visibility and transparency into program status, financials, and metrics
  • Champion process, productivity, and tooling improvements across entire portfolio and innovation teams
  • Communicate and manage consolidated goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes
  • Interface with all departments to ensure relevant areas are engaged in time to identify and communicate program wide dependencies, deliverables within their area to support portfolio execution
  • Drive portfolio engagement and visibility with 3rd party suppliers and partners to understand and report on key deliverable tracking, refine processes and increase efficiency, and drive program metric creation, implementation, and adoption
  • Develop change management and communication processes associated with program roll out and ongoing support
  • Provide guidance and oversight to the project managers within the program to monitor cost, schedule, and technical performance of projects, while working to ensure success of the program




Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills


  • Master’s Degree with MBA/equivalent experience
  • Program Management Certification or PRINCE2 /PMP Certification with relevant experience
  • Experience in process improvement using methods like Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma
  • Excellent interactive site design and implementation to effectively engage key stakeholders to communicate and demonstrate transformational experiences, program status, portfolio health, and metrics

  • Exceptional experience in story telling utilizing presentations and executive communication ahead of operating meetings

  • Strong background in process development and mapping, re-engineering, and implementation across multiple  stakeholders and working across matrix organization to gain buy-in and adoption

  • 10+ years overall experience, including 5+ years in program operations of large complex software projects with aggressive schedules: from identification of needs to execution of detailed program plans.

  • Very effective communicator and strong hands-on experience with designing effective slide decks and financial models to communicate complex material effectively at the Sr. Management and Executive levels

  • Excellent analytical skills - data gathering and interpretation to synthesize analysis results to appropriate levels

  • Consultative and logical thinking skills

  • Ability to work as a team member and lead team efforts in a cross-functional matrix team organization.

  • Ability to be successful in an unstructured and fast paced team environment and work independently with light supervision

  • Proven record of innovation and technical thought leadership with excellent business acumen. Exercises good judgment in both technology and business situations.

  • Hands on experience with Clarity, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel and Visio
