Role Value Proposition: 

The Head of Data Operations reports directly to Head of Core Delivery and is responsible for managing a team made up of approximately 8-10 FTE.  This position drives production efficacy while ensuring that data quality, data governance and data security policies and regulations are followed. 

  • Our group is responsible for data used by employers, employees, individual customers, and internally throughout MetLife to support real-time applications, decision-making and operations
  • We are responsible for delivering this data in accordance with SLAs and performance guarantees.
  • We configure our big data toolkit to adapt to changes in the various data sources that feed into our data hub, and to provide expanded and improved metadata to end users and applications. We participate in projects to create data delivery solutions that deliver data to MetLife’s big data platform, as a partner in programs that include business intelligence, analytics, and application development to deliver end-to-end data-centric solutions.
  • We proactively monitor data quality in our data hub, and work with source systems to identify and resolve problems that affect data quality.
  • We are an integral part of a large-scale technology transition designed to help MetLife better respond to its customers and market, and we require forward-thinking leaders that can help accelerate that transition while ensuring that day-to-day operations are not adversely impacted.    


Key Responsibilities:

  • Incident Management & Resolution (L2); Data Quality, and Service Level Agreements
  • Support self-service in production and test environments (masking, profiling, archiving); entitlements, administration
  • Provide Operational Reporting internally to DnA as well as to LOBs on their Data Quality and Data Processing
  • Provides DNA Data Operational Reporting – internal & to Data Stewards & Custodians; Production metrics for DQ, volume trends
  • Ensure the timely delivery of data to stakeholders, in accordance with established SLAs, through proactive management of our data hub.
  • Ensure that project commitments for data configuration and governance projects are met, on time, on budget, and with acceptable quality, while also ensuring that employee project utilization targets are met.
  • Manage the resolution of data availability and data quality incidents escalated to to the team in our Tier 2 support capacity.
  • Provide data quality and data processing operational reporting internally to DnA as well as to LOBs, including production metrics for data quality, volume trends, capacity utilization and system demand.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and  MetLife policies, including but not limited to the areas of finance, privacy, and security.  Develop and improve team processes to ensure objectives are met and the team works together effectively and efficiently.




Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • Ten plus years of Software Development experience
  • Five plus years’ experience in data focused roles (Business Intelligence, Database, ETL, Advanced Analytic systems)
  • Demonstrated experience with people management, including hiring, skills development and performance reviews.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial management, including budget, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field



  • Deep technical expertise in one or more areas within Big Data, Data Warehousing/Business Intelligence, Application Development, Database Administration, ETL, Advanced Analytic systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams through technical and/or organizational change.
  • PMP, ITIL certification
