Role Value Proposition: 

The Director of Projects/Programs is accountable for the day-to-day management of large, strategic MetLife initiatives.  This role is responsible for navigating large programs/projects from the planning phase where the business case is approved and funding is secured through implementation and closure where the business benefits are delivered. Throughout this journey, the Director of Projects/Programs addresses obstacles that impact the successful implementation of the business objectives.  The Director of Programs/Projects ensures that key stakeholders are working together on shared deliverables and that the sponsors and senior management are constantly informed of the initiative’s progress to plan.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead teams serving clients across industries (with specific capabilities in mergers & acquisitions), while demonstrating executive presence with C-level client counterparts
  • Facilitate due diligence focused on identifying operational and technology strategy, organizational structures, and current state business processes and supporting technology
  • Assess operational and technology investment strategies and compare respective operating models and organizational structures against leading practices and industry benchmarks
  • Conduct initial and ongoing transactional risk assessments and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies to meet plan budget and schedule
  • Assess operational and technology investment strategies and compare respective operating models and organizational structures against leading practices and industry benchmarks
  • Lead engagements teams on transaction advisory, guiding the team to prepare focused request lists and agenda, facilitating on-site reviews, and providing leadership over deliverables
  • Work with engagement leadership to implement operational processes and technology that support value creation and process efficiency across functions
  • Manage project economics including: track project budgets, project expenses, ensure support for invoices
  • Drive the development/enhancement of MetLife’s M&A methodologies (diligence, planning, carve-out, etc.) and approaches to client delivery
  • Coach and manage other consultants and actively participate in the performance review process
  • Understand client strategy and investment priorities and turn those goals into concrete engagements and detailed proposals
  • Create work plans, pricing estimates, and risk assessments for prospects.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:



  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 7+ years leading complex multi-stream projects such as merger integrations, carve-outs, business transformation and change management
  • Experience planning and implementing integration and separation projects as the result of M&A activity
  • Demonstrated track record of working with and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders across multiple functions
  • Experience in identifying and mitigating risk in complex divestiture and acquisition programs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills (MS Visio, MS PowerPoint)
  • Experience conducting operating model fine-tuning and organizational design
  • Understanding of cross-functional and functional coordination
  • Experience with staff development and eagerness to mentor junior practitioners
  • Consulting and/or directly relevant industry experience
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments.



  • Deep working knowledge of transitional service agreements (TSAs)
  • Management consulting experience
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
  • Apply practical experience with communications, culture, and change management
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
