This position reports up through MetLife’s Fraud Waste & Abuse Center of Excellence (FWA CoE).  Our mission is to eliminate Fraud, Waste & Abuse within the Global Health Claims Organization by providing expertise in the areas of analytics, analysis, reporting, and training.  These factors will lead to improved detection, prevention and increased quality outcomes, while strengthening MetLife’s ability to deter insurance fraud, waste and abuse.

 

Role Value Proposition :   This position leverages an advanced knowledge of predictive modeling analytics to develop, test and validate models for various functions/lines of business within MetLife. This position will contribute to a more innovative approach to claims models and builds knowledge of the business environment. The candidate will need to demonstrate advanced statistical analysis, data mining and research techniques.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under limited supervision, ascertains and executes plans to build, implement and maintain predictive models using available tools and programming languages. Monitors and provides feedback on model performance and recalibrates model as necessary
  • Determines and performs appropriate exploratory analysis such as data mining, empirical data analysis, univariate analysis, partitioning analysis, etc.
  • Independently gathers requirements from appropriate business partners for project, including necessary data for analysis to be performed. Develops project plans, executes on deliverables within agreed upon timeframes, manages deadlines, communicates progress and makes recommendations to address issues
  • Provide on-going tracking and monitoring of performance of statistical models and recommend ongoing improvements to methods and algorithms that lead to findings, including new information ; Recommends ongoing improvements to methods and algorithms that lead to findings, including new information
  • Engage with the broader MetLife data science team to share ideas and concepts; work collaboratively with all members of the MetLife team to deliver products to our business partners.

 

Business Requirements and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 5+ years working with data and relevant computational frameworks and systems  with solid understanding of database principles; experience in data manipulation and cleaning; experience in identification and resolution of data issues
  • Expert level understanding in any of the following areas: machine learning, probability and statistics (esp. Bayesian methods), natural language processing, operations research
  • 7+ years developing of probabilistic models and machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with SQL, R, Watson and relational databases
  • Experience in programming languages for large scale data and predictive analysis (predictive modeling, machine learning or data mining)

    Preferred:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of database principles; experience in data manipulation and cleaning; experience in identification and resolution of data issues
  • Experience using data analytics with website and/or mobile apps strongly preferred
  • Exceptional problem solving skills and willingness to learn new concepts, methods, and technologies
  • Project management skills, extremely thorough and detail oriented
