Assistant Network Engineer

Role Value Porposition:

Network Engineering is responsible for the design, engineering, and optimization of current and emerging network technologies to support MetLife business in over 40+ countries.  This role requires strong knowledge or expertise in many of the following network architectures, including route/switch, VPN, firewalls, WAN acceleration, Cloud, SDN, as well as service chaining through API integration and automation, Ansible, and Python.

List of responsibilities:

  • Research, design, develop, and implement network architecture and strategy with a 1-2 year technology horizon supporting MetLife’s global business

  • Manage 2-3 small, or 1-2 medium network engineering initiatives simultaneously; Liaise with technology partners and vendors to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and stakeholder involvement during project lifecycle
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop integration and automation within our networking tools environment to include SolarWinds, Netbrain, Splunk, InfoBlox, PowerBI, and ISE
  • Develop operational strategies such as End of Life (EOL) replacement schedules, applicable product roadmaps, vulnerability management processes, automation, monitoring/alerting and best practice documentation
  • Provide 3rd level support to Network Operations team for project delivery and problem escalations
  • Self-motivated with strong team-oriented and collaborative attitude

Required expertise:

  • Solid experience in scripting and automation within Network and Security environments, including but not limited to Python, Ansible, Powershell, REST and other APIs
  • 2+ years Network Engineering with design and implementation experience for medium to large enterprise or campus environments
  • Cisco networking environment (e.g. AnyConnect, route/switch, wifi) with strong networking protocols knowledge

Preferred experience:

  • Solid understanding of network infrastructure components such as compute, storage, load balancing (F5), cabling, administration, network management and monitoring (Solarwinds, NetBrain, AD, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline preferred, or equivalent work experience
  • Professional certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, CCNA, CISSP or relevant industry certification strongly preferred
  • Solid communication and presentation skills
  • International experience including support, installations, and vendor management
  • Cloud (Azure, AWS, Google) architecture and integration experience
