The Role: The AVP will be accountable in IT for the delivery of the customer touchpoints (digital, reporting, and customer engagement) of the DE transformational program. This role is responsible for all steps from inception to the operationalization of all aspects of the program including leadership, architecture, design, development, project management, and operations for the customer facing components of the DE ecosystem

 

Key Relationships:

Reports to VP Disability Evolution

Direct reports/team: 40+ FTE and FTC with potential to grow as we scale

Key Stakeholders: Product Leaders, Market Leaders, Claim Operations Leaders, Call Center Leaders, Architecture Leaders, Data and Automation Leaders, US CIO, IT Leaders supporting US Businesses, Infrastructure, Security and Risk teams and Leaders, GTO Finance Leaders

 

Key Responsibilities: Responsible for end-to-end, long-term lifecycle, direction, and IT product development teams from original concept through final implementation and maintenance. The role is responsible for:

                                   

Leading team (on/offshore) responsible for end to end development aligned to a Product and/or Platform

    • Lead the technical strategy for a business unit of products, focused on building the product capabilities aligned to the product strategy.
    • Acting as a bridge between technical and Product Area managers to develop short- and long-term strategic plans that support the overall program roadmap
    • Leading Solution Architecture strategy

Platform product ownership

    • Defines the platform vision, drives the platform strategy by understanding IT and the customer needs, the products, and the overall market. 

Development, Coding, Testing, and Maintenance

    • Ensuring the team has the technical competencies to meet the product capability needs aligned to the customer.

Manage and resolve interdependencies, risks, conflicts, and impediments.

    • Lead team to implement audits and controls to identify and prevent future IT and operational risks.

Vendor Accountability

    • Responsible for IT Vendor relationships and contracts.
    • Reduced Unit Costs through cost effective design proposals and effective ongoing vendor management, including the understanding and presentation of alternative technology/vendor options.
    • Develop and manage strong relationships with multiple global vendor partners to develop long-term strategic plans, while executing on short-term tactical goals

IT Product Team Management

    • "Full people management responsibility for direct product team including hiring, firing, promotions, performance, career and compensation management, & training & development.
    • Matrix management responsibility for cross functional team members aligned to the product team that includes performance management."

External Orientation

    • Thought leader on emerging technology trends and capabilities that align to a large Product portfolio.

Drive Agile software development and maintenance metrics and KPIs that help optimize product delivery.

    • Optimize Product/Business Unit software delivery through a continuous focus on software development and maintenance metrics and KPIs.

Resource Management

    • Develop and manage the product budget including maintenance, infrastructure, and annual discretionary portfolio of projects with Product Area Manager/Business Unit Leader

Partnerships

    • Develop meaningful relationships with key business stakeholders and leverage their knowledge of the business to help drive value driven business outcomes

Financials

    • Develop and manage the overall program budget across IT including annual development, maintenance, infrastructure, and for 2-5 years out.

Leadership & Communication

    • A team player with a proactive approach to people and issues management. Must partner with others across the organization with candor and transparency.
    • Deliver timely, executive caliber written and verbal communication to the Office of the CIO, US AD SLT, and other senior business partners across the enterprise.
    • An inherent sense of ownership in managing objectives, staff, and stakeholders (internal and external).

 

 

Candidate Qualifications:

   Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of leadership experience building and delivering technology products
  • Undergraduate degree required, MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • Proven track record of success and significant experience in fast paced, leading software development initiatives, with working knowledge of modern databases, services, UI, and development tools.
  • Technology expertise in architecting and building large scale applications for multi constituents
  • Experience with front end frameworks, data engineering, APIs, and cloud architecture
  • Experience leading large scale complex transformation and/or technology modernization efforts
  • Demonstrated strength managing and developing diverse direct and 3rd party engineering organizations.
  • Experience and proven ability managing an organization of 60+ with the ability to scale, including across geographies.
  • Proven track record of delivering successful world-class, large-scale, performance-critical multimillion-dollar software projects on time, on budget, and with quality and security in support of large, growing, established businesses, as well as new businesses.
  • Experience in agile/iterative, life cycle development processes, and deriving best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and with outstanding business acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results with a track record of success in achieving high-impact business results in a complex and multi-business-line work environment.
  • Experience building a high performing organization.  Demonstrated open and frequent communications at all levels of the organization with genuine sensitivity and commitment to the development needs of the organization.
