Role Value Proposition:  The AVP of Infrastructure Technology Optimization will serve as a key economic and business case analysis stakeholder relative to technology funding decisions made by MetLife’s Chief Technology Officer. S/he will lead the development of benchmarks, business cases, financial models, and deal structuring / negotiation strategies to drive significant cost savings opportunities against the Global Infrastructure and Technology Operations (GITO) group’s annual operating expense run-rate of $1 billion.

 

This position will also function as a leader and technology deal management Subject Matter Expert (SME) to other business and IT leaders across the enterprise by i) generating proposals for the reduction of infrastructure spend with minimal impact to risk, stability, and quality of service, ii) articulating the business, operational, financial, and contractual impact of proposed spend reductions to executive stakeholders, and iii) developing governance structures, frameworks, tools, and training guides to enable other associates to analyze cost savings opportunities and communicate their meaning and impact to relevant stakeholders.

 

Finally, this role will provide day-to-day leadership for MetLife’s largest and most complex Enterprise Licensing Agreement (ELA) renewals inclusive of IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, BMC, CA, etc. (over 60% of  annual infrastructure software spend) with responsibility for i) developing enterprise requirements, ii) identifying alternatives to and migration plans for higher cost technologies to drive run-rate reductions, and iii) creating business case deliverables to obtain executive stakeholder buy-in and commitment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technology trends and MetLife’s global technology infrastructure stack in order to identify and propose viable cost optimization opportunities
  • Enable cross-functional operational improvement and cost savings initiatives by partnering with GITO, GTS, Finance, Procurement, and the VMO to develop business cases which address the business, operational, financial, and contractual implications of technology spend decisions
  • Develop succinct and compelling executive-level presentations to articulate the meaning and impact of operational improvement and cost savings initiatives in order to obtain executive buy-in
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for large ELA renewals or other significant cost reduction initiatives
  • Work with technical domain teams to develop alternatives to and migration plans for high cost technologies in order to ensure that MetLife retains maximum positional leverage over high cost vendors
  • Develop strategy, plan, and pipeline for achieving GITO’s share of corporate strand / UCI reduction targets
  • Drive increased institutional rigor around technology cost optimization and total cost of ownership by creating training materials, tools, and frameworks and by conducting recurring training sessions for Engineering, Service Operations, GIS, and AMS teams
  • Mentor and develop direct and indirect reports in order to upskill GITO associates relative to financial acumen, business case development, and cost management skills
  • Ability to travel 5-10%

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10+ years of progressive business or technology experience with exposure to hardware, software, and services within large global institutions
  • 10+ years of experience with business case development and financial modeling / analysis
  • 10+ years of negotiation experience with focus on closing large deals and transactions
  • Significant technology cost reduction experience
  • Experienced public speaker with comfort presenting business cases and financial analyses to executive management
  • Ability to quickly analyze data and structure decisions with significant financial implications
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage high performance teams
  • Undergraduate degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred
