The Role: This role will be responsible for leading multiple programs throughout Global Technology, including consulting with business and operations leaders, ensuring compliance management, project financial and risk management, as well as direct supervision of program and project managers for key Technology programs. Assume key leadership role for coordinating Operations, Business and IT deliverables and program benefits.


The role will lead complex, Global, Regional and Country wide cross-organizational Business initiatives aligned to executing MetLife’s strategy. Initiatives will include transformation programs aligned to driving operational excellence. This role will require an entrepreneurial leader who is able to gain stakeholder trust and is adept at influencing others. The position is responsible for securing and managing resources needed for program execution; active management and escalation of program related issues, risks and dependencies; and ensuring timely and on-budget implementations that achieve the expected business outcomes.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Executive Sponsors and Business leaders to define initiative scope and translate into defined Business Objectives and Program Goals.
  • Provide direct support to executive and senior managers of Enterprise Strategic Business Projects on the MetLife Program and Project Management Frameworks and tools.
  • Thought leader and strategic innovator in aligning the tactical and strategic plans of Infrastructure, Application Development and the Business.
  • Change Agent capable of identifying and representing the latest innovative technological trends and leveraging their potential to impact business strategy and objectives
  • Manage multiple Technology Programs with oversight over the program and project teams
  • Execution responsibilities include accountability for full leadership and management of large scale, complex programs or initiatives.
  • Ensure appropriate financial & reporting processes are in place to provide the right level of transparency to program team members and stakeholders.
  • Provide senior program management representation at program governance meetings with executive and senior management.
  • Ensure that appropriate support resources are deployed to ensure the successful execution of the Enterprise Strategic Program.
  • Create and maintain a team environment that is built on trust and collaboration and facilitates open communication and transparency.
  • Manage the day- to- day execution of the program governance and reporting processes including timely escalation of program issues and risks.
  • Manage and coach/mentor Program and Project Managers who support management of Enterprise Strategic Programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and shares knowledge of risks, opportunities and services available to build a competitive advantage and improve efficiency and effectiveness of the business

Candidate Qualifications:

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10-15+ years of experience in large, global corporate environment preferably financial services industry; 10+ years of IT PMO and governance experience.
  • Related field experience required; Advanced degree preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of program and project management concepts, multi-modal methodologies, continues to learn new and updated practices and able to apply them to various situations.
  • Demonstrable experience working with executive level management.
  • Experience working in and leading large matrix managed initiatives.
  • Excels at leading and directing activities of distributed, global teams and ability to direct, motivate and develop project staff in an evolving environment.
  • Demonstrable experience planning and managing a project portfolio of greater than $50M annual spend.
  • Organizational Change Management expertise.
  • Proven experience in providing service to internal stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes
  • Large corporate environment experience where coordination, collaboration and communication across multiple organizations is required for alignment, approvals, decision-making and governance
  • Understanding of project delivery and acceptance processes within a fast-paced business environment
  • Expert in effective management of multiple, concurrent projects
  • Demonstrated capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgment, assertiveness
  • Expert influencing skills to manage enterprise stakeholders, business partners, and teams of diverse composition (e.g. varying skill sets; in-house and outsourced) who are not direct reports
