The Role: As a member of US Digital Leadership team, the AVP, Product Development for Pet Insurance will be responsible for building and delivering on our Pet Insurance business objectives.  The key objectives for the role include technology leadership, successful cross-functional delivery, and strategic execution of major components of the Pet program.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement technology roadmap for MetLife’s PET product from MVP through future feature enhancements throughout the product lifecycle. Partner closely with Product Management on development of the strategy, as well as the prioritized execution of the strategy.
  • Deliver market-leading UI/UX elements that meet/exceed customer expectations and provide leadership and guidance through implementation.
  • Manage end-to-end application ownership for the Pet product, including information in enterprise system of record, environment management, CI/CD pipeline, integrations/APIs, release management, testing and review board approvals and identifying and resolving risk and security issues.
  • Execute SDLC via Agile methodology, leading development of PI objectives and sprint goals and participating in core Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, etc.)
  • Lead the creation of meaningful Agile program reports and metrics dashboards.
  • Drive stakeholder/executive sponsorship by leading actionable program updates and co-creation sessions.
  • Draft, review and sign off on Intellectual Property agreements with core vendor partners based on feature development and launch. Manage multiple vendor relationships successfully through assertive delivery schedules.
  • Partner with business and marketing functions to “go to market” efficiently and with high quality, including development of app center assets through deployment to the app center.
  • Onboard and support new team members from early stage through comprehensive MetLife people leadership and performance management practices (where applicable).
  • Holistic financial management (budgeting, contracts, forecasting and invoicing) of the application, including internal teams and vendors.
  • Create a well-integrated and highly effective team across multiple geographies, as well as work in direct
     partnership with technology and product teams to ensure deliverables are aligned and integrated with the overall product and technology strategy and roadmap.
  • Accountable for recommending, implementing and operating a broad set of built and purchased/licensed technologies to deliver a high-volume, highly available
    product/platform that is auditable and compliant with all applicable accounting standards and regulations.
  • Accountable for running several legacy systems until products on those systems can be transferred onto the new stack. Work collaboratively with several leaders from other functions to continuously evolve this plan to deliver the right
     balanced outcome.

  • Reports to: Vice President, U.S. Digital, Global Technology
  • Direct reports/team:  Formative stage and expected to grow to several directs and a substantial global team
  • Key Stakeholders: Product Managers, Business leads, partners in Risk and Security


Candidate Qualifications:

   Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10-15+ years of leadership experience building and delivering technology products
  • BS with advanced degree preferred in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical engineering.
  • Proven experience in product development (PD) delivering enterprise solutions to clients and consumers. PD constitutes leadership across people, technology and product.
  • Proven track record of success and significant experience in a fast-paced, leading software development initiatives, with working knowledge of modern database, services, UI and development tools.
  • Demonstrated strength managing and developing diverse direct and 3rd party engineering organizations.
  • Experience and proven ability managing an organization of 60+ with ability to scale, including across geographies.
  • Proven track record of delivering successful world-class, large-scale, performance-critical multimillion-dollar software projects on time, on budget and with quality and security in support of large, growing, established businesses, as well as new businesses.
  • Experience in an agile/iterative, life cycle development processes and deriving best practices.
  • Experience in managing and executing complex system integration - effectively exercising build/buy/partner principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically with outstanding business acumen, who hits the sweet-spot of being strategic and "hands-on".
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results with a track record of success in achieving high-impact business results in a complex and multi-business-line work environment.
  • Experience building a high performing organization.  Demonstrated open and frequent communications at all levels of the organization with a genuine sensitivity and commitment to the development needs of the organization.
  • Exhibit strong executive presence and able to drive/steer conversations in technology and business forums.
