The Role: The AVP, Data Infrastructure Transformation will provide leadership and guidance in developing and implementing a global cloud-based data technology strategy in alignment with business outcomes and industry trends.  This includes assessment, rationalization and optimization of current data infrastructures, processes, and tools, recommending modern data infrastructure strategies that enable business innovation, speed to market, and reduces technology currency. The leader will partner with Infrastructure and Technology stakeholders (Architects, CIOs, and Regional Application Development Leaders) to capture requirements and effectively deliver transformative cloud data infrastructure and migration solutions to support MetLife’s data ecosystem and business priorities.

 

The role will be an advisor to Executive Leadership on data technology industry trends and competitive advantage, delivering scalable and flexible technology that supports diverse data sources and consumption patterns.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Influence and drive selection process of cloud hosted data technology capabilities, including, vendor/solution evaluation, Proof of Concepts, pilots, and support developing of the business cases.
  • Lead the data infrastructure design, planning and execution of enterprise class, large transformational initiatives.
  • Enable self-service of resilient and secure cloud data capabilities using infrastructure-as-code.
  • Develops standards, best practices, and implementation patterns for deploying cloud data capabilities.
  • Develop, maintain, and cultivate strong customer relationships at all levels, with special emphasis on executive level IT leaders and architects.
  • Articulate industry trends and act as a technical/trusted advisor across enterprise business units, IT and partners.
  • Develop, influence, and evangelize emerging data technology trends to drive innovation, support business transformation and evolve culture.
  • Work with the business and other non-technical resources to provide financial guidance and forecasting based on technical requirements.  
  • Recruit, manage, and build a team of innovative cloud data engineers.

  • Key Stakeholders: CTO/EVPs, Regional CIOs, SVPs, VPs, Data & Analytics, Digital, AD, ITRS, GTO

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10+ years of IT infrastructure experience designing and building scalable, performant data solutions (e.g., OLTP, master data management, and data warehouse) on-premises, in the public cloud (e.g., Azure), and hybrid cloud.
  • 5+ years of experience developing technology business cases with financial assessments, value drivers and execution capabilities.
  • 5+ years team leadership, supervisory or other management experience.
  • 4+ years of Cloud data architecture, storage, compute services and solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing enterprise scale transformational strategies.
  • Extensive knowledge with architecting modern data integration frameworks, highly scalable distributed systems using emerging data architecture designs and patterns.
  • Expert ability to evaluate, prototype and recommend emerging Cloud data technologies.
  • Enterprise scale expertise in data management standard methodologies such as data integration, data security, data warehousing, data analytics, metadata management and data quality.
  • Ability to influence and drive technology innovations, execution, and adoption at an enterprise level, globally.
  • Outstanding executive communication skills, written and oral.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience; Advanced degree preferred.
