Hybrid schedule: Preference to those who can go to our Cary, NC office (3-days in, 2-days work from home). Remote option available if necessary.

 

The Role:  The AVP of Cloud Platform, is responsible and accountable for the active improvement, design, integration, and delivery of MetLife’s enterprise Cloud Platform. This leader will be responsible for setting the Cloud Platform’s direction and determining how to best serve its internal customers. They will provide the Cloud Platform as a shared self-service platform treating it as a product and acting as a product manager. This role will oversee cloud structure and service integration’s long-term vision, strategy, framework, and roadmap aligned to the needs of global technology, development, data, and business stakeholder community.

 

The leader will be expected to collaborate with internal teams across architecture, digital, data, security, workplace, and technology groups. They will drive to deliver the maximum benefit in the broad consistent proliferation and responsible use of cloud services. This leader will be focused on comprehensive provisioning automation and access enablement with enterprise guardrails on behalf of stakeholders. They will be responsible for enabling all teams through DevSecOps practices, productivity tooling, helping lead the CCOE, and responsible for cloud consumption opportunities. This role will also be responsible for monitoring and reporting broad cloud usage and adherence. 

 

This leader will have direct and indirect responsibility in delivering strategic initiatives critical to MetLife’s future success across various business units by brokering all the services a cloud provider can offer.  This leader will collaborate closely with a wide range of teams and global leaders (CTOs, CIOs, development, technology, and data teams) to strategically improve core cloud capabilities for the enterprise.

  • Direct reports/team: 4 direct reports; 18 indirect reports

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops standards to integrate cloud services consistently aligned to MetLife’s varying markets and regulatory compliance environments.
  • Creates ability for consumers to create automated application environments through API, automation, and Role-based Access Control (RBAC) models.
  • Defines quality metrics and governance processes in alignment with Cloud strategy.
  • Collaborates closely with platform or product teams to understand updates to existing or new services on the catalogue.
  • Leads upskilling and knowledge proliferation alinged to cloud providers, access, and MetLife cloud user personas and roles.
  • Supports projects and accelerates adoption and learning curve for local markets.
  • Manages Cloud resources skilled in core Cloud technologies (Security, Networking, Architecture).
  • Partners with multiple senior technology leaders to manage a holistic approach to strategy, planning, delivery, audit, compliance, and control.
  • Leads structured meetings with Senior IT and Business leaders providing knowledge, updates, and adherence data on MetLife’s cloud usage.
  • Builds productive relationships and personal credibility with key business and technology stakeholders ensuring successful delivery and alignment.
  • Ensure appropriate resource management in support of strategic programs.
  • Anticipated travel up to 10%.

 

   Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in leading engineering teams in delivering enterprise-wide capabilities.
  • 5+ years of experience in Cloud Platforms; Azure preferred.
  • Experience with information and data security benchmarks, incident response, and compliance processes, and procedures (NIST, CSC); CISSP preferred.
  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum, SAFe).
  • Experience and strong understanding of Cloud networking concepts (virtual private networks, colocation hubs, Edge, vLAN integration).
  • Experience working in Financial Services; Insurance (Life, P&C, Health) and/or Banking experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of modern security and solution architectures.
  • Outstanding executive communication skills, written and oral.
  • Strong strategic thinking and tactical execution capabilities; brings critical thinking and intellectual rigor.
  • Able to work in and bring clarity to ambiguous, evolving environments.
  • Maintains a high performance / high accountability mentality, demonstrated in large, matrixed initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in technology or equivalent experience.
