Role Value Proposition: MetLife Investment Management, LLC (“MIM”) is a subsidiary of MetLife, Inc.  MIM was officially launched in October 2012, offering the in-house investment expertise MetLife Investments to third party clients.  Since the launch, MIM has raised over $27 billion in assets and offers investment strategies in private debt and real estate. The sales role is a critical function within the business, primarily responsible for raising capital and retaining clients. The MIM business is part of a broader strategic initiative of MetLife, Inc. to increase fee-based revenues and diversify revenue streams.

 

This is a new sales position within the Investor Services function of MetLife Investment Management. The candidate will be responsible for initiating and developing new investor relationships in the UK and continental Europe to secure capital commitments for the products and services of MIM platform.   Strategies include Private Placements, Real Estate Debt, Structured Finance, Emerging Markets, High Yield and other fixed income products.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and sell current MIM product throughout the UK and continental Europe; expand scope to include new product range as it is developed.
  • Develop and monetize new relationships with decision makers with institutional investors and their consultants.
  • Execute the MIM sales process systematically, including contacting prospective clients, in-person meetings and presentations.
  • Co-ordinate across other functional areas of the business such as portfolio management, private capital debt originations, fixed income portfolio management, real estate, accounting/finance and research to facilitate a collaborative approach to winning mandates.
  • Provide feedback to senior investment strategy professionals on how the product is being received with individual subsections of the investor community, and make constructive suggestions of how to improve this.
  • Contribute to the development of high quality marketing material, providing updates according to changes in investor appetite or market environment.
  • Develop and maintain understanding of MIM products and services for separately managed accounts.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of other competing products within the marketplace and their impact on MIM strategies. 
  • Provide continuous input for Investor Services, leveraging MetLife’s scale to deliver best-in-class client services. Investor interaction must be characterized by timeliness, accuracy and transparency.
  • Closely co-ordinate with the RFP and Investor Services colleagues to produce timely and thoughtful responses to Requests for Information, Requests for Proposals, Due Diligence questionnaires and further ad hoc questions from investors.
  • Recommend innovative marketing tools and strategies that may further enhance the experience of investors. 

 

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

 

  • Ability to develop relationships with decision makers of institutional investors and their consultants and convert these relationships into sales.
  • Ability to sell a diverse range of fixed income and/or alternative product (ideally including real estate or infrastructure equity or debt investments).
  • Knowledge of UK, German and Nordic institutional investors (insurers, retirement & consultants) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the institutional investment decision making process and the role of consultants and advisors.
  • Understanding of what it takes to succeed in a large institution; ability to work as the sole business development professional in a regional satellite office, if applicable.
  • Entrepreneurial and motivated individual with an interest in building and developing a business.
  • Strong internal communication; ability to build relationships with senior investment and sales professionals in the UK and Europe.
  • Has the ability to work well with others in a complex, performance orientated environment.
  • Excellent written and oral skills
