Job Location: 2 days working in the Brighton office, with the remaining 3 from home. Potential Full Time Remote option for candidates with Employee Benefits (Underwriting) experience.

Role Value Proposition: 

We are looking for experienced Group Risk Underwriters to join us to help MetLife become the best in the Employee Benefits market. We need Underwriters with strong customer service and commerciality to come on board with a good ability to assess risk and decide the appropriate price and terms within company strategy and underwriting philosophy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for underwriting Group Life and/or Group Income Protection quotations for existing and new business in a timely manner within agreed internal procedures to achieve service standards.
  • To support key strategic relationships within Sales, Actuarial and other business departments by making pragmatic and commercially focused underwriting decisions to help achieve sales, profitability and retention targets.
  • To provide technical underwriting support to the Sales team, where appropriate.
  • Training less experienced members of the Employee Benefits division, checking and sampling their work against the agreed procedures.
  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder may be required to perform other duties as reasonable assigned by the Manager from time to time.


Essential Business Experience

  • Four years’ experience of working in an Underwriting / Underwriter function preferably within Employee Benefits
  • Strong record of Underwriting success in a fast-paced environment, with ability to manage own work and deadlines, communicating coherently across functions if required
  • A desire to proactively learn and develop yourself
  • Ability to challenge existing ways of working for the best outcome for the company and customer
  • Accomplished team player with winning mentality



  • Any financial services qualifications or equivalent, such as GR1 or other CII qualifications.
  • Preferred educated to ‘A’ Level caliber or equivalent


Essential Technical Skills:



  • Experienced with Microsoft Excel
