Department: The Group Benefits (GB) organization is responsible for the strategic direction, growth and management of MetLife's industry leading U.S. employee benefits business. Within this organization, the MetLIfe Disability business is among one of the largest in the industry.  The business offers Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, Administrative Services Only, Individual Disability Insurance, Absence Management, and Paid Family Leave solutions. 

 

The Role: The VP will serve as pricing Leader for Group Disability Products which includes Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, Individual Disability Income, Total Absence Management, and Paid Family Leave. He / she will provide pricing support to senior leaders, product leaders, the finance partners, and MetLife’s group underwriting team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead pricing studies & analysis for existing block and for new product development (~$2B annual revenue, ~$275M annual sales). 
  • Maintain, update, and enhance our disability pricing & underwriting tools
  • Define, communicate, and monitor underwriting & pricing strategies
  • Support case-level underwriting decisions on the largest and most complicated cases
  • Own and update all Embedded Value pricing assumptions for the Group Disability block
  • Lead the pricing initiatives in support of a greater disability enhancements project
  • Perform risk and financial analysis to support Group Disability product partners (Finance, Valuation, Operations)
  • Lead a pricing team of eight associates. Help manage two associates that are shared with the Life pricing team.

 

Key Relationships:

  • Reports to: VP, Life & Disability Pricing
  • Direct reports/team: Total team of eight, five direct and three indirect reports.
  • Key Stakeholders: Market segment leaders, market segment strategy leaders, underwriting officers, Group Benefits finance team, Group Benefits product teams.

 

Candidate Qualifications:

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10+ years of Actuarial Experience & 5+ years of group insurance pricing experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven success as a people manager
  • Ability to work effectively with partners and in cross-functional teams
