Role Value Proposition:

 

This is a role in Global Actuarial Modeling (GAM) working on Data Science. GAM is a part of Actuarial Resources which sits within Finance Management Group (FMG). GAM is responsible for delivering robust and scalable actuarial modeling solutions in accordance with enterprise & regional objectives.

 

GAM plays a crucial role in generating accurate and timely numbers which become part of our overall financials. These financials are submitted to various external and internal stakeholders like the SEC in USA, other regulators, senior management and MetLife’s board. Our financial results are key to measuring performance against targets and company strategy, as well as in shaping the strategy for future. GAM’s work generates key analyses helping business to review the performance from different angles and in taking necessary actions.

 

The GAM Director Data Science is responsible for developing tools, systems and processes in GAM utilizing various data analytical techniques such as machine learning and partnering with the MetLife Data Science team.  The role will have a matrix accountability for the PathWise development team in GAM to have oversight of all Python coding work within the team.  This is a new position and the aim of the bring new capabilities to Actuarial Resources through the utilization of new tools and ways of working.  The role will require an innovative thinker with excellent knowledge of Python as well as actuarial modeling and experience studies to bring new capabilities to GAM and to the company.  The position will report to the SVP Global Actuarial Modeling and will be a member of the GAM Leadership Team as well as having a matrix reporting accountability to the AVP Data Science Delivery in the Data Science team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the MetLife Data Science team to identify projects and initiatives which can bring significant improvements to actuarial modeling using the tools from data science
  • Have oversight of all Python development work in GAM, including PathWise development, and ensure work is done in a robust and scalable framework.
  • As part of the GAM leadership team be a voice for innovation in the company and demonstrate ways to enhance processes by utilizing new tools and ways of working.
     

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Either an experienced actuary with past work in modeling and systems development or an experienced data scientist.
  • Good knowledge of Python and other programming languages
  • History of implementing innovative solutions and making changes to systems
