Role Value Proposition: 

This position will be a member of the MetLife Holdings Retail Annuities department.  The Director & Actuary will lead the experience study team for fixed and variable deferred annuities.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Make annual experience study recommendations to senior management for fixed and variable deferred annuities, including but not limited to lapse, partial withdrawal, and mortality.
  • Participate in industry studies and develop deep understanding of existing and emerging trends in the industry.
  • Respond to regulator and rating agency requests for surveys or other periodic (e.g. annual or quarterly) data requests.
  • Own the Annuity DataMart database, which houses data used for analysis across various functions and areas within the company.
  • Support and participate in product initiatives.
  • Maintain all required process documentation.
  • Actively collaborate with business partners.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • ASA or FSA designation, or equivalent
  • Strong aptitude for handling large sets of data, preferably with Alteryx and/or SQL experience
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including the ability to handle competing data requests in a timely manner
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Access



  • Experience with annuity products
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience
