Role Value Proposition

We are seeking an Actuary for our Group Benefits Embedded Value team. In this role, you will report to our AVP & Actuary and will work with the team in calculating Embedded Value for Group Benefits product lines. The responsibilities involved will be the end-to-end process, from gathering assumptions, running the models, analyzing results and producing reports. This also includes maintaining and updating the tools used in the process. You will be working with many group products such as Life, Dental, Vision, Disability, A & H, and Individual Disability Insurance.

 

This position includes interfacing with leaders in Product and Pricing, Pricing Oversight, the CFO organization and the Financial Teams as well as partner with our Global Actuarial Modeling and IT teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Run various projection models to produce Embedded Value results.
  • Analyze and summarize Embedded Value results.
  • Update and run the various Excel tools maintained by Group Benefits.
  • Implement, quantify and review assumption changes & product updates.
  • Proactively drive model, process, and methodology improvements by conducting innovative research to identify existing issues and to recommend and implement enhancements.
  • Perform single cell model validations.
  • Provide support with annual audit requests, ad-hoc requests from business partners and assist with other teams such as Group Valuation as needed.
  • Collaborate and partner with Global Actuarial Modeling and IT to test all updates to Embedded Value and streamline modeling & reporting processes as needed.
  • Provide modeling support and advanced analytics for all projections initiatives.
  • Participate in the implementation of LEAN methodology.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics or actuarial science.
  • Actuarial Associate (ASA) or Fellowship (FSA) designation. 
  • Proficient in Excel and VBA and other programming languages such as PolySystems or Prophet is highly desired.
  • 4+ years’ of actuarial experience working in the financial services/insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of the life insurance industry within a product, pricing or valuation environment.
  • Strong modeling skills (coding, testing, validating).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to communicate complex actuarial topics to both actuaries and non-actuaries.

 

Preferred:

  • Advanced Excel knowledge is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrate aptitude for data analysis and assumption setting.
  • Highly motivated individual who can work equally well independently and in a team environment.
  • Results-oriented and high level of intellectual curiosity. Takes initiative on projects and assignments; seeks alternative solutions.
  • Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Group insurance product knowledge is desired.
