The Short Term Disability Specialist makes correct and timely decisions on all claims, makes sure every claim or leave is paid or administered to its accurate duration, and applies all appropriate provisions of the disability contract to ensure that MetLife’s liability is understood and appropriately applied throughout the life of the claim. Proactively identifies opportunities to support claimants in achieving a safe and timely return to work through a variety of programs and methodologies and takes accountability for partnering with the claimant and other to execute appropriate return to work plans.

    

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures the claims contain recent clinical analysis and occupational information.  While, consistently assessing claimant information and medical data to minimize disruption to benefits and ensure ongoing engagement with the customer. 
  • Appropriately utilizes guidelines and Clinical team to make accurate initial and ongoing decisions. Ensures a timely and seamless bridging of STD claims to LTD claims by appropriately evaluating and documenting with clear rationale; the support for extension through the full STD duration.
  • Deliver Customer Centric Service that is consistent with or exceeds our customer commitments and superior reputation.  Providing: a high-level of service to the claimant, including delivering on commitments, timely return of phone calls, and clear communication. 
  • Proactively communicates with the claimant to set expectations, assess medical and non-medical barriers to return to work, and keep him or her fully aware of the status of the claim, including setting expectations with the claimant if other resources will be contacting him/her. 
  • Engage the Employer, Attending Physician, and other appropriate resources to efficiently and effectively gather information with the least amount of impact to the claimant. Prioritizing and organizing work with a focus on Claim Management Accuracy.  Proactive action to obtain any information, including medical, and extend benefits to medically supported date.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • High School Diploma 
  • 3 plus years claims experience or relevant business experience.

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s degree
