Summary of Responsibilities:

 

This position provides strategic leadership of the Underwriting Operations with primary focus on regional market business operations in the 2-5,000 lives marketplace. This position is accountable for overall functions of Regional Market Underwriting which includes new business and renewals, persistency, quality, underwriting processes, strategy and training. Additionally, the incumbent owns the total customer financial experience which includes outcomes aimed at profitable growth including earnings, revenue, and expense management.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

 

 

§ Owns regional financial responsibility for both the planning and execution of all management decisions (earnings, revenue, expenses, processes)

§ Financial responsibility for Underwriting, both for new business and renewal underwriting decisions in order to write and renew customers/coverages while managing to desired target margins.

§ Facilitates strategic planning and partnership with Sales Market Leaders and brokers to promote a service experience that differentiates MetLife in the marketplace and creates cross buying, persistency and overall growth

§ Recruits, develops, coaches and retains diverse management and associate talent

§ Responsible for the development of talent and the overall employee experience

§ Maintains an environment providing for motivation, participation and the opportunity for employee initiative

§ Work with external vendors and internal partners – Service, Sales, Products, Marketing, IT, E-Business, National Accounts, Legal, Service Delivery, and Finance – to develop and continually refine the underwriting process and technology to drive key business results such as persistency, closing ratio, task time, and margins.

§ Builds strong working networks with customers, intermediaries, MetLife partners and associates both internal and external, all necessary for profitable growth

§ Participate in the development of key metrics for underwriting quality, timeliness, unit cost, and sales/products/broker/employee satisfaction and monitor measurements for business effectiveness

§ Partner with National Accounts to leverage underwriting expertise, experience, and resources.

§ Removes obstacles to growth

§ Partnership – ability to develop an effective network within MetLife to achieve objectives and meet customer needs and expectations

§ Knowledge - in-depth knowledge of the following areas:

§ Underwriting end to end process

§ Products and services

§ System applications used in underwriting process

§ Pricing rules

§ Contractual and administrative documents

§ Possess strategic thinking long-term solutions.

§ Ability to manage an operating budget.

§ Excellent project management skills.

§ Strong Word, Excel, Power Point skills.

§ Ability to travel (5-15%)
