Role Value Proposition:

The Derivatives Valuations group is part of the Derivatives Middle Office that provides and oversees the valuations of the global derivatives book, covering exchange-traded, cleared and bilateral OTC derivatives. This position, Director of Valuations, manages a team of two others and has ownership of the primary derivatives valuations system and drives new product development in this space. This position will work across different groups (trade processing, collateral management, risk analytics) within Derivatives Middle Office and partner with Front Office, Risk, Derivative Accounting & Reporting, Portfolio Management Unit and Technology to drive the rollout of strategic priorities including regulatory, industry-driven and enterprise requirements. This role reports to VP, Derivatives Operations.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Daily pricing and review of derivatives valuations for the enterprise, explanations of price movements. Analysis of breaks in valuations with counterparties.
  • Partner with the head of Derivatives Operations as well as Directors of Risk Analytics, Collateral Management, Trade Processing & MetLife Investment Management new product group to streamline and enhance derivatives platforms to support strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Drive priorities and lead business ownership, identification and execution of key projects, collaborating with IT, external vendors such as analytics and market data providers, and other groups as necessary
  • Monthly and quarterly sign off on valuations, incorporating value adjustments and explanation of price moves and P&L attribution to market risk factors.
  • Interact with business leads and senior management to fully understand business initiatives and consequent reporting needs.
  • Define and implement specific derivatives processes, procedures and controls and perform data governance reviews.
  • Full people management responsibilities for the team.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 10+ years of experience with derivatives operations. Strong knowledge of derivatives valuations and/or derivative reporting practices.
  •  Ability to integrate enterprise-wide derivative and finance knowledge into broader based strategies. Good understanding of industry issues and trends.
  • Strong understanding of project management techniques and ability to monitor progress against objectives.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and as part of a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills



  • B.S. degree in Financial Engineering, Engineering/Physics, Operations Research, Finance, Mathematics, or a similar field; advanced degree or CFA highly desired
  • High level of proficiency in valuations platforms such as Murex & Blackrock Aladdin
