Role Value Proposition

The US STAT Reporting group, based in Tampa, FL, has an open management position. This role provides a challenging opportunity for a motivated individual to gain experience in managing the preparation of the U.S. Statutory basis financial statements and related filings, while forging partnerships with a broad range of finance functions, including controllers, fin ops, TAG, investments, tax, and actuarial.

In this role, you will learn and guide your team on STAT accounting concepts in all aspects of insurance accounting (ex: Reserves, Investments, Reinsurance). This person will need to be able to coach the team through complex accounting concepts. The role also requires having the ability to summarize and present financial data in an organized, concise manner. The role must be able to work independently and be able to interact with your employees, coworkers, upper management and auditors. It requires an independent, self-starter who can apply innovation to business processes, key reports, and cross-collaborative projects. Continuous focus on business process improvement and simplification through the use of new and existing tools.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the timely and accurate reporting of Statutory financial results (Stat Audit, MD&A, Quarterly Filings and 4/1 filings) and reviews the documents for errors and inconsistencies, and Analyzes financial data, ensuring that reporting is in compliance with NAIC reporting regulations
  • Manages the coordination of comments/questions received on the filings and the production of a quarterly and annual RBC, and plays a key role in providing support for the annual audit and quarterly review activity with external and internal auditors
  • Assists with completing quarterly board slides, and manages the completion Form B filings
  • Reviews Audit Checklists, approves and reviews journal entries, reviews the ledger and manages the subsequent follow up with groups that need to do additional entries
  • Researches accounting rules and regulations to make recommendations regarding company policy while continuously monitoring, recommending, and implementing process improvement initiatives to increase effectiveness and productivity
  • Performs various high-level analytical analyses over fluctuations in accounts and documents results

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills

Required:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience; 2+ years leading people/projects
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel and relevant functions (v-lookups, h-lookups, sumifs, links, and pivot tables)
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to analyze data and problem solve complicated transactions, and the ability to plan, multi-task, prioritize responsibilities

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or finance
  • Knowledge of Statutory Insurance concepts, principles, and reporting
  • Experince with Workiva (Wdesk) and Alteryx
  • Ability to modify, develop and improve procedures and policies to meet reporting needs/requirements
