Role Value Proposition: 

MetLife is hiring an Underwriting Consultant for our Group Benefits business in National Accounts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrites renewals for multiple products by reviewing details of the current plan (premium history, claim history, etc.) and company financial condition to determine appropriate renewal action; prepares pricing analysis for review; makes plan design change recommendations.
  • Underwrites new business quotes by analyzing financial and plan information to determine whether or not to accept risk.
  • Prices plan changes at broker or customer request, or to impact new business or renewal rate action. 
  • Develops new business pricing models.
  • Maintains pricing files and databases in accordance with defined standards. 
  • Participates in RFP strategy, implementation, and administration processes. 
  • Provides consultative services for Account Executive, broker or customer regarding life, dental, and disability plans. 
  • Assists customer unit administrative consultants to deliver and explain case underwriting results. 
  • Participates in strategic planning and project work to develop and/or improve underwriting processing, or that reviews previously released quotes for purpose of understanding trends and results. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:  None.  May provide guidance to junior staff members.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 4 years’ work experience in group insurance underwriting.

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in applied mathematics, actuarial sciences, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in group life, dental, disability, or medical underwriting.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Analytical.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
