Here at MetLife we are seeking a Lead Software Engineer / Developer to lead the technical delivery of a complex and highly visible project in the Credit Risk IT domain. The ideal candidate will possess prior technical leadership experience in investments or insurance industry, strong development, communication, collaboration, and project management skills. Also have hands-on experience in leading complex financial systems projects using internal and external data in advanced analytics with ability to influence people across the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership to a project team that’s building a Big Data platform for Credit Risk modeling and reporting functions.
  • Acts as a lead developer / project lead for complex systems and data architecture
  • Provides integrated systems planning and recommend new or different technologies which will enhance current systems and support overall GTO and business goals
  • Communicates recommended architectural vision, customer data strategies as well as reporting & analytics roadmap strategies and obtain buy-in from key internal stakeholders
  • Collaborates with the product line architect to review solution design and roadmap
  • Works closely with developers, analysts and business to build fully thought through solutions. Also ensures that new features are implemented according to specification and bugs are fixed.
  • Analyzes data related business problems and provide solutions with BI tools and technology at hand and where applicable proposes new tools and solutions which have a positive impact on the organization which will improve the existing analytics capabilities
  • Leads project planning activities in an Agile SCRUM environment to define the milestones and activities within a comprehensive project plan to ensure project is on time and on budget
  • Provides content and review documentation for release or new features
  • Measures and tracks progress toward strategic goals through use of appropriate metrics


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or technical discipline or equivalent. 10+ years related information systems experience. Master's degree a plus.
  • Strategic thinking and strong orientation to detail.
  • Experience with data quality, data cleanup, data strategy, data integration, and/or master data management (MDM) projects.
  • Experience with technology in the Apache Hadoop ecosystem such as MapReduce, Spark, Hive.
  • Advanced SQL skills – writing complex queries, views, stored procedures and functions
  • Deep level knowledge of systems development lifecycle specifically Agile SCRUM
  • The ability to leverage skills across multiple areas of responsibility by architecting multiple, complex solutions of high performing and flexible systems over a sustained period of time
  • Strong quantitative and analytic skills (intermediate knowledge of Excel and/or Statistical programming packages).
  • Strong background in business process analysis, requirements, and design, as well as data modeling, prototyping and detailed functional design.
  • Expert understanding of data analysis, including root-cause analysis, and other process modeling and systems design tools.



  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Must possess strong initiative and a get-it-done attitude.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication as well as receptive listening skills, with ability to present complex ideas in a clear, concise fashion to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent team player able to work with virtual and global cross functional teams.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and tasks.
