Role Value Proposition: 

An expert level corporate tax role required to manage USGAAP and Solvency II tax reporting, and tax compliance process for a wide number of European and Middle East locations.


This role requires the management of all tax aspects in relation to Solvency II and ORSA reporting for Europe, US GAAP reporting, Plan/Projections and ad hoc requests for the Gulf, Turkey and Levant subregions within EMEA, and management of tax compliance processes for Holding Companies within MetLife EMEA, supported by junior members of the team, and tax advisors as necessary.  The role will report into the Regional Tax Controller and will also support the EMEA Tax Director and NY Tax on key Tax projects. This is very much a ‘hands on’ role and it is key that the incumbent is a self-starter and can self-review to a high standard, given that the incumbent will be dealing with senior management on a regular basis.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Ensures tax provisions are consistent across entities and in compliance with GAAP, STAT and SOX policies and procedures ensuring that financial reporting and statutory compliance deadlines are met, in particular in relation to the following:
    • Leading the management of the USGAAP tax reporting process for Gulf, Lebanon and Turkey (GLT), including liaison with stakeholder across EMEA region
    • Review and analysis of complex quarterly and year-end tax provision packages for MetLife’s EMEA operations in the GLT region, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures are applied consistently across the region
    • Managing and review of local tax compliance and IFRS tax provision process for MetLife’s EMEA based Holding Company structure – our key holding entities are located in Switzerland, hence some familiarity with Swiss tax rules is an advantage (but not essential), in addition to Irish tax rules
    • Managing the Solvency II tax reporting process for European entities who are subject to Solvency II regulations, ensuring tax compliance with regulations
    • Supports on local tax authority audits in GLT region, coordinating with local Controller teams and local external advisers, to minimize audit impacts, reports back to EMEA Tax Director on same.
  • Efficient and effective management of and interaction with other business teams to assist in the deployment of effective capital strategies.
  • Lead the interface between EMEA Controllers, Local Country Tax, Global Service Providers, Auditor (Deloitte) and Corporate Tax functions for each country within the remit of the role
  • Manage one direct report, including effective coaching, training and feedback and also support local CFO/Controller teams in terms of tax training where required


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 12+ years tax experience 
  • Professional qualification in accounting or tax (AITI/ACCA/ACA/CIMA)
  • Expert tax accounting knowledge including experience managing and maintaining strong control environment for large multinational
  • Significant, in-depth, Experience in management of a tax reporting process for a group or region, e.g. USGAAP or Solvency II reporting purposes
  • Significant previous experience of finance services in particular life insurance, USGAAP and US taxes required
  • Demonstrates leadership and negotiates effectively with internal and external relationships
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently – self-starter role
  • Excellent written and oral communication
